  • Dual Rates (Triple on Spektrum) on Aileron, Elevator and Rudder

    Here is the thing. I have flown Planks for over 30 years and just in my first REAL year on Helis.
    I always used Dual rates on Aileron, Elevator and Rudder flying Planks.
    With Helis, I have just flown it as it has been set up. ie. FULL RATES and adjust my flying accordlingly.
    However, on the Pheonix Sim, I sometimes use Dual/Treble rates when I want to do some nice smooth Pie dishes etc.
    What do others use/do please?
    Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
    Now too many Helis to mention?

    Hey.

    I use my dual rates and exponential on all my models, have done since my F3C days so carried over the 3 different flight modes concept to my 3D.

    As an example I run;

    Normal mode ; 60-70% DR and 15-18% expo
    Idle up 1 ; 100% DR and 30-40% expo, same in idle up 2. However head speed increases in stages from normal to idle up 2, which also effects dual rate and expo feel as rotor rpm increases.

    It's definetly a help running exponential on the models, especially when wanting to make small corrective inputs around centre stick, but still having full cyclic if you push the stick over.
    However, its very much personal preference and what you like or get used to running.

      Thanks Ian. I have been running 100% and 20% Expo on A & E plus 30% on Rudder. No Expo on the first few flights with my 550E FBL. Loved it until I started to do other things than Flips, rolls, loops and stalls. I used to run similar to you for planks when smooth control was required for F3A on low rates. I will bite the bullet and start experimenting with Triple rates on my Spektrum.

        I never use DR as I like to keep the feel of the sticks the same regardless of what I'm doing, in case of those panic moments etc. I always use expo however, so that it's not twitchy.
