    Ok this might see like a silly question, but,

    i have a Futaba T6exp 6 chan tranny and a 6 chan futaba reciver, its running on a Trex 450xl.

    all 6 channles are taken on the reciver up by the 4 servos, ESC and the gyro but technicaly there are still 2 channels left on the transmiter

    my question is this, if i get the need for another channel (as in retracts ect) do i need to replace the reciver with a 7 chan one and will my 6 chan tranny still work ok with a 7 channel reciver? or is there another way of doing it?

    sorry if this seems a bit daft but i dont understand fully how the gyro and esc work.

    Thanks

    You should only have three servos (the ones controlling the swash) plugged directly into your receiver. The tail servo plugs into the gyro (which, in turn, plugs into the rudder channel on the receiver). The ESC plugs into the throttle channel. That makes 5 but you may have a second signal to your gyro for rate (certainly if it is a Futaba 401 like mine) which makes 6.

      Yer thats what iv got chap.

      i dont seem to be able to get me head round the signal wire on the gyro taking up a channel

      i guess i need to change the reciver for a 7 chennel but will my 6 channel tranny work a 7th channel as theoreticaly there are still 2 unused channels on the transmiter?

      ooooo, my head is starting to hurt again lol

        Cant see why you think there are 2 channels spare.

        1 = Aileron
        2 = Elevator
        3 = Throttle
        4 = Rudder
        5 = Gain for gyro or Gear
        6 = Pitch (mixed with throttle)

        Thats all your channels gone

          'fraid you will be using all 6 channels on your TX. Cyclic uses elevator and aileron, collective uses throttle and pitch, gyro uses rudder and aux. If you want to handle retracts etc. you are going to need a 7 channel TX AND a 7 channel RX.

          The TX mixes throttle and pitch for you so that they are both controlled by the left stick (throttle - assuming mode 2)

            ok right im slowly getting this now, so the extra switches on the trany are redundent coz the programinig uses those channels for the pitch and gyro?

            is that right?

              I wouldnt say redundant

              Switch top left = Idle up (for 2nd throttle curve)
              Switch left facing = Channel 5 Gyro/Gear to switch between H/hold and Normal
              Switch top right = Throttle Hold
              Switch Right facing = Dual Rates

              Did you get a manual with your Tranny if not I can email a PDF ver to you
              if that would help ?

                As Twister explained, you are using all 6 channels.
                One switch (usually top left) switches between normal and idle-up flight modes.
                One switch is for throttle hold this cuts motor power but leaves all other channels operative.
                Another switch will control channel 5. This is used to switch between Heading Hold & Rate mode on the gyro (the signal wire from gyro into CH5 on RX)
                I'm not completely familiar with your tranny, but I'd assume there is also a dual rate switch. This is so that you can select different rates of movement on the controls. More movement for aerobatics, less for learning/sport flying.
                Plug it all in as Twister says and have a play with the tranny. You'll soon make sense of it all.
