  • Servo cable length?

Does anyone trim their servo cable length in the helis? rather than folding up cables...

Trimmed mine to fit in my Trex250 and no problems yet, touch wood.

Make sure that you get a decent crimping tool and decent plugs if you are going down that route.

Back in the early days of micro helis I used to cut cables to length and remove parts of casings to make them more lightweight. On larger helis I would much rather tidily bunch up the cables than risk a failure. It also means when the servos are moved to another heli I won't end up with a cable that's too short.

I don't know why servos are designed with a length of cable anyway.
I would much rather see a servo that just has some sort of plug connector on it. That way you could buy different lengths of servo wire to plug into the rx and servo.
        Simple.

Excellent idea. Futaba have something coming with their bus system, maybe the rest will follow.

Connectors cost money and connectors are a point of failure.

I would like to see a high quality two part connector inside the servo on the pcb to eliminate having to use extension leads.

Lengths of wire with a connector on the end costs money too.
If they were designed well then a connector with some sort of retaining mechanism would be quite sturdy.
As for a failure point, a good quality connector should help to eliminate this.

Waveyday, what are futaba using on their s-bus then?
