First thought would be fuel starvation - either simply too lean or something clogging the fuel supply chain - fuel lines, clunks, fuel inlet nipple, needle valve assembly etc

yes looked at them steve but it will tick over fine m8
with no trouble and will hover 1 foot off the ground but when 3 feet engine just stops like the power was cut it dosent splutter or nothing just stops like if you hit the h/h
      switch
      cheers

If there is some kind of partial blockage in the system then it will tick over fine - a little bit of fuel will get through ok. It's when you approach half throttle or more and demand more fuel that the engine goes lean due to fuel starvation, and then cuts. Also, at tickover its running on the idle mixture control and then transits onto the main needle at about 1/4 to 1/3 throttle opening. If the main needle assembly has a blockage then bingo, fuel starvation again.

needle position depends on the engine....

Hi Adie, I had this happen to me once.

Almost went mad trying to find out what was wrong. Tried even borrowing parts to replace things. Bought and fitted all new fuel and clunk lines etc.

Turns out it was the fuel had gone off.

Got some new fuel and......... BINGO .

You could just try borrowing a tankful just to test it out.

tt39 main needle 3 turns out with optimal setting 1/4-1/2 turn in (tt's words not mine)
no base setting on the bottom end given
but set it rich to stop the mid range running lean

and don't worry about the engine getting hot
                        they do run very hot

                        also look at the exhaust
i had an os32 play up and i just couldn't get it to run right after years of good service even after changing the fuel lines, making sure it had no air leaks etc
the engine was replaced only to have the same problem
the only thing that was the same from the start was the exhaust
i swopped it over from another heli and bingo one fine running heli

as i'm a little slow in typing i've just seen the posts that beat me and yes try some known good fuel
