  • Nose heavy but tail dropping in flight?

I was playing with heavy lipos at weekend, on trex 500 and atom cog was way towards the nose, yet I had to feed in loads of forward elev to keep the tail up... The swash is set up fine mechanicly, is this normal?!

    Cheers tom

you may have to try and move stuff to the back or and put some lead on the tail

If it is actually a bit nose-heavy then you shouldn't need forward (down) elevator unless the swash was not level.

The correct C of G should be just in front of the main rotor shaft, or a bit nose-heavy if checking balance at the shaft.

I'd check all through the whole rotor system inc flybar and paddle alignment (if its not FBL)

I'd also disconnect the motor and check the swash remains level through its entire pitch range both +/- while no cyclic is applied, it could be that at 0 pitch its ok but as you are increasing pitch to hover and climb the elevator servo isnt travelling as far as the other two, causing an unintended elevator input.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I had this problem on my 500 last month.. CG was perfect (off flybar) and swash was mechanically set up perfectly through full range off travel.. however.. the tail kept dropping?!?! I think it may have been the gyro as its kinda cured itself but everyone said it was mechanical??

Why did you suspect the Gyro ?

Only because I had a heavier than normal crash before I got it into the air again.. and I had everything mechanical set perfect again.. after two more flights, the problem disappeared?!?! and I didnt change anything.
