  • Starting a club ?

    Hi Everyone

I am very kean to start my own club in my local area, and i have plenty of feilds in my area to do this.

But is it as simple as it sounds ?

Im 16years old, is this an issue ?

I have BMFA insurance, what else is needed, any certificates (A or B).

Can i just put up a few posters advertising the club and the get members to join?

Does the BMFA have to be involved ?

    Thanks in advance

Sam I had the same idea a few months ago and despite being a tad older than you I had all the best intentions to invite the many people around my area desperate for a local club.

Sadly it was permission to fly that beat me NO ONE would entertain letting me on any fields even by myself, however I did write to the BMFA who supplied a wad of information about the legal in's & out's!

You might need the assistance of some older members but don't think it's not possible you just have to follow the legalities of a club so you don't get dropped in the Brown Stuff!

Great Idea - I wish you all the best

good luck all the same on getting your new club off the ground, was not quite sure weather the age of responsibility would have to be applied .

Right as said get the info packs of the BMFA first.

The hardest part for 99% of people wishing to start a club is finding the land. Then the fees with the land owner will have to be agreed etc.

Once you have found the land and got it all sorted with the owner you need at least 5 members to form a club and be affliated with the BMFA.

Fill in the forms and they look more complicated than they actually are. The BMFA will help you fill these out, send them back with all the details and that is it, you will receive confirmation that you are a fully affiliated and insured BMFA club.

Any help or advice send me a pm as its all still in my memory from last summer when I started PMHC

I think the OP deserve's either the advice he ask's for or at the very least no comment, I fail to see how your comment of "owe dear" helped in anyway. If this helps any more of your post's it should be 'Oh dear'

I wonder if he would "throw his dummy out of his pram" if one deal fell through on an internet forum?

you can start a club without it being bmfa affiliated, i was a member off a club that had nothing to do with the bmfa. but just had to have the insurance to fly there, i quess you could call it being a country member!!

You can do this of course but being affiliated gives you more protection.

Sam Do you have any potential members lined up?

Most fliers would be more than happy to lend a hand or experience in these early stages and the more people could lead to more possibilities for flying sites!

When I thought about this scheme I had a great bunch of fellow enthusiasts with a wealth of knowledge but we weren't able to get anywhere to meet and fly.

Keep firing your questions on the Forum and as you've seen there are people that have been through this routine fairly recently!

Well done Sam wish I lived nearer
