  • 50 Size Servos

    Hello!

I just wanted to ask which servos you tend to put on the cyclic on a 50 size heli. I always tend to go for either Align 620's, 610's or something like futaba s3152s. I just wondered if I am missing something cheaper that will do an equally good job, or perhaps I am being too tight on my cyclics and should go for something better. Please let me know your thoughts.

    Much appreciated,

    Paul

i think it is down to how well you fly i mean if you are doing full on 3D then yes get good fast servos ,but if you are only hovering around or only doing 8s then any mid range will be fine.

Thanks for the quick reply, could you give me some examples of a mid range - I thought Futaba S3152s were mid range?

      Thanks again.

the s3152s are about the best mid range digital servo you could proberly get from futaba and not a bad price at about £18 each you could go as low as the futaba148 if you are just starting out but keeping in mind you would have to upgrade in time. One of the main reasons you would want to have mid range servos is due to having them working at the same speed on the cyclics. Servos can be stange things at times you could buy three 148s and find 1 works just a tad faster or slower than the other two thus making problems.
i dont know any thing about Align servos as i have never used them i have always stuck with futaba myself maybe others can add somthing on them.
i use the s3050 on my trex600 and they are just right for me i would even say they are just a tad to fast for me at times when im just a little heavy on the sticks

For the money the DS610/620's are way superior in my opinion, metal geared, faster, more torque, can run the 610's in 90's, in fact i do in both my 700 and my Aurora.
The 3152's are a good servo but would not want to run them for 3d, or at least only simple stuff being the fact they are plastic geared

I have not used them myself, but I've only ever heard good things about the ALIGN servos.

Having said that, I was under the impression the 9254 was a good tail servo but everyone seems to hate that!

Also, beware any "slow" servo on an eCCPM setup such as the TREX range as you may get transient control inputs when you punch the sticks quickly and each servo takes a little time to reach it's required point (this was really obvious on my GL450 using slow "towerpro" servos. When you punched the collective the swashplate rose unevenly meaning that there was a transient forward cyclic input which disappeared once all the servos reached their set position. I rapidly swapped them out for HS65MGs). This is not a problem in mCCPM set-ups such as the Raptor 30, 50, 60 and 90 because each control axis works independantly.

DS610s are a good bet for the cyclic, although I have to acknowledge that those savox prices are tempting.

Don't SAVOX make aligns servos for them, the same specs but aligns are 10 quid cheeper???

OK - Spoke to a few peeps, had a look around and have gone for the savoxs recommended above. Whilst speaking to the guy a TJD he told me that Savox actually make the align servos - so the quality is GOOD!

                        Thanks for all the help.

                          Hello James,

Apparently its the Savox that come in around £10 cheaper...

Incidentally, these servos are to go on a great little Ely Q I picked up at a bargain price...

I do like them, but they are very noisey and the cases do break in a crash. Would prefer BLS451 if they came up at the right price.

Interesting. Its the first time I have cheaped-out on servos, so I will let you know what the outcome is. Thanks for your input.
