  • Set up advice please...

    Hi all,
I bought an Esky belt CP around 1 year ago, and have only had it out around 6 times as I have found it difficult to control.
I have been flying a Lama V4 (which was so easy to fly and fun) for around a year until I smashed it outside the other day. I have just bought a Blade mcx (ordered today) to fly inside (for a bit of fun), thanks to the advice from this forum.
I would love to be able to fly the belt CP, but it is proving quite difficult. I have the training kit on, but it constantly drifts to the left and backwards, which makes it difficult to control, and I am not sure how or what to adjust. The instructions that come with the heli are poor, please can anyone advise what I need to do in order to get it to hover in a stable manner.
I have also been advised that the phoenix sim would help, but it is quite an expensive app. Does anyone have one for sale cheaper than in the shops?
    Regards and thanks.
    Jeff.

Have you tried trimming the heli, there should be instructions in your manual, it stands to reason that if it drifts to the left you trim to the right and if it drifts backwards you trim for forwards etc. Phoenix isn't actually that expensive when you consider that it could save you money from avoiding a crash.

No matter what you do with the trimming it will only be good for the conditions you have at that time. Fly in a strong headwind and you might have to add some forward trim. The next time you go out it might be flat calm and the forward trim will need removing.

Regardless of what you do though a single rotor helicopter is inherently unstable. They will not hover hands off for very long before moving off the spot. For a good stable hover you have to anticipate which way the helicopter is about to move and give the merest hint of correction to stop it. You will forever be inputting these tiny corrections to keep a stable/stationary hover, plus collective input to maintain altitude.

Persivere and get the Phoenix sim. Practice, practice and more practice and it will come good in the end

The Belt CP is naturaly tail heavy, When I upgraded I mover the receiver further forwards and centrally underneath which helped a little. Make sure you do NOT push the bateery fully in as this makes it far worse and literallyt unable to fly as it will go backwards straight away and at a pace too. Pull the battery forwards by anything upto 50mm to balance the heli. To check the balance, set the blades forwards and backwards with the flybar left to right. lift the heli off the ground by each side of the flybar (close to the head centre) and watch to see id the tail falls or rises. If it drops, it is tail heavy and you need to pull the battery forwards to balance it.

Good luck and I hope this helps. With regards to drifting make sure the swash plate is set up properly, you hay need a twist on the control rods to level it properly, looking at it from the front. While you are at it, check it fron the side too. This should fix your problems.

I had similar problems, but sorted it with abit of tweaking. Make sure the flybar grips are exactly level with the paddles - if they are even slightly out of line it will lead to the drift you've described. The flybar grips and paddles should be parallel to both the washout arms and the swashplate when looking from the side.

If set up right, the Belt CP will hover hands off and stable

Thanks to everyone for their advice, I will give them a try.
I have just ordered Phoenix, can't wait to try it.
              Much appreciated
