  • Offset function in mixing program. Can you explain it?

The Offset function in the mix program?( DX7) Book says it`s to redifine the neutral position of the slave channel. If it`s elev>throttle mixing, the slave would be the throttle right? What is the neutral position of the throttle and why would you need to redefine it when mixing. I would love to get my head round this one cos nobody else seems to know at the club!

When i dialed in 20% Elev>throt mix, i noticed the throttle linkage binding at full stick and cyclic deflection. (I know i will never fly with sticks in those positions) I thought the offset would stop that, but no. So i used sub trim, (L 75) which worked, but don`t know if i did right. i.e Does that affect my throttle curves? When i set up throttle linkage a year ago, the end points were H 130 and L110. When dialing in the cyclic mix, should i have re set the throttle first?. i.e. H end point to max (150) and then take the ball in a bit on the servo? Not sure about that because then i would be slowing the movement of the throttle down, and the link rod to servo arm would not be 90`.
Ohhh nooo, my head hurts, somebody help me, PLEASE.

I guess not then. Maybe a visit to the DX7 website forum!

I think its something to do with planks, and it slipped into the heli menus.

Yeah, you might be right there. I googled it today, and the only references i could find to it were to do with planks.
As far as cyclic mixing, i think sub trim is the trick to solving throttle binding at full throttle and cyclic deflection after entering mixing values!

Offset is often used on flaps on gliders but as far as I know the DX7 doesn't do gliders...

There is a very good explanation of cyclic throttle mixing and stopping end point binding at www.raptortechnique.com.

I use cyclic throttle mixing on my 2610, and it works the same as that on the DX7, You need to mix Elv to Thr, you should have 3 numbers, a + value, a - value, and an offset, leave the offset as zero, you then need to move the cyclic stick to the left and this should set on value, I don't have my TX here at the mo, but I think that sets the + value, set that to 20%, then move the stick the other way, and set that to -20%. do the same for the other axis with the other mix ( Ali to Thr). Then what you need to do is reset you throttle linkage, servo horn postion and TX setup so that when the throttle is fully open ( just by using the throttle stick) the TX atv is 150, as the Tx limits the travel to this point and will not allow the servo to move any further even if there is mixing in. So a little bit of playing around with you atv's and throttle linkage and you should be there. Use the servo travel indication screen ( the one with all the scales and arrows that move about when you wiggle the sticks ) to check that everything is moving in the right direction, and you should be good to go. Hope this helps......

You don't need to move any balls or anything in or out holes on servo arms, just set up you top atv to 150 and set your bottom atv point up by the same amount.

-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

                And a DX8 too

Thanks alot for that Jamaz. I think i will try that technique. I was out today with it and set up the mixes as per www.raptortechnique.com. using sub trim trick. It worked OK actually and i even went as far as doing my first loops and inverted for a few seconds. I was really throwing the heli about with loads of cyclic inputs and the revs were holding. The mixing seemed to work, but i`m going to try your way during the week. Bit more faffing about than sub trim, but will give it a go.
