  • taranis transmitter

hi guys i have a cheerson cx-20 and i was thinking about upgrading the transmitter to a taranis, the question is can i bind the taranis to my blade mcpx or would i need to buy a separate rx?

    many thanks

You would need to get a DSMX module to go in the back of the Taranis. Hobbyking do them: OrangeRX 2.4GHz DSMX/DSM2 Compatible Transmitter Module (Futaba Compatible)

I think the Taranis takes a Futaba compatible module like the one i linked (the alternative is JR compatible)... but best double check if you are ordering one.

Oops.. looks like my memory is letting me down. Google is saying the Taranis takes the JR pattern module: OrangeRX DSMX/DSM2/Devo 2.4GHz Selectable Transmitter Module (JR/Turnigy Compatible)

Only if you fit the module. As general rule 2.4GHz systems use brand specific protocols (or languages if you like), so the transmitter and receiver generally have to be the same brand so that they can communicate. This is true of the Taranis which by default uses a different 2.4GHz protocol to the Spektrum receiver in the mcpx, so the two wont bind together and wont work together.
The module plugs into the back of the Taranis and transmits the correct (DSMX) Protocol to allow the Taranis to bind and communicate with the mcpx.

              Hi

Yes that Tx module will be the one you need for the MCPX. I have no idea about the cheerson cx-20 and if you will be able to use the taranis with it.

                froggy,

I believe the one you linked, DSMX/DSM2, is different than the one Grumpy linked, DSMX/DSM2/Devo. Based on this you may want to the latter. Several of the orange modules look similar but have different functionality.

i didnt want to order one from hobbyking as it would take over a week to receive it so thought i would try get one from ebay.

i will go for the one grumpy linked, that way i wont buy the wrong ones.

                  thank you very much guys!

Just make sure whatever module you get supports DSM2 for use with your mCPX. It will not bind in DSMX mode. This caught a few people out when the new EU rules came in recently and Spektrum were forced to drop DSM2 support on all their new transmitters. My older DX8 is fine because it supports both DSM2 and DSMX.

Or on a completely random note, how about one of these. Walkera QR X350 PRO DEVO 10 w/ RX1002 Receiver 10CH 2KM 2.4Ghz RC Transmitter | eBay and a visit to www.deviationtx.com that should fulfill your requirements with no module.
