  • MSRX & DX6I - Bat out of hell.

I'm having a spot of bother

My DX6i was set up to go straight from the box - Bind and fly as would be expected for a Horizon product.

Everything works as it should -- except cyclic, which all works like it should but the heli reacts to any cyclic input like a chipmunk dipped in chilli sauce.

The slightest input on any axis and it takes off at a stupid speed and any input to correct and it's behind me in a flash.

Basically what I'm asking is there any way with the '6i of dampening the cyclic response?.

This is my first time with a computer radio.

    Regards.

    Dave. - Supercruise

Unfortunately Dave I'm far away from home at the moment, won't be back for a good while, or I'd send you my settings. And out of sight out of mind I can't even visualise what you need to change but the good news is your demented chipmunk dipped in chilli can be tamed right down in a few seconds. I'm sure somebody will be along shortly to tell you how.

Welcome to the forum, good first controller and good first helicopter - it crashes very inexpensively.

You need to go into the D/R and Expo menu on your DX6i. Change the D/R setting (dual rate) to something like 70% (should be 100% by default) and also add about 30% expo. This will tame it all down. The D/R setting reduces servo travel and the Expo reduces stick sensitivity around the centre point.
If you google for "setting Expo on DX6i" I'm sure you'll find dozens of videos. It's easy to do.

I use the Tx that comes with the rft version and if you set it in beginner mode by pressing the cyclic stick its quite stable so there must be a setting that will dampen it down on your dx61. I also have 2 dx61s so think i will try and put some settings in.

Take time to set the tracking of the blades up. Theres a vid on you tube showing an easy way and when i did this mine was great fun. indoors its pretty stable even in my small living room.
They survive crashes well just remember to throttle down as soon as you crash as if not you may burn one of the motors out.

When you take off throttle well up and get well clear of the ground and it will be a lot more stable than if you take off gradually

Great little heli to add to our fleet. I use mine to practice in the factory where i work.

              It worked a treat - DR @70% and expo @ 30% - now fly's like my MSR.

Many thanks for your replies and instruction.

              Very sincere regards.

Cool, glad that worked out. I find that all my micros (except co-axials) need a fair bit of expo on the cyclic to make them controllable. The rudder however is usually okay at full rate with little or no expo.
