Good Morning and Merry Christmas to all.

I am returning to The wonderful world of R/C after a year or so out and would welcome some opinions on a 500 size heli.

Not fussed if its new or 2nd hand, the only thing is that ive only currently got £200 ish to play with so a new trex 500 Dominator is out.

Im not after a 3d machine really as i am basically going to be learning again i think and even then am only going to be doing sports flying with it.

I will need pretty much everything bar the transmitter as i have a DX7s.

So am well aware that £200 probably will not get me flying but mostly there would be a start.

HK dont have any BNF at that size, i've emailed Simon re his 500 for sale and am just awaiting a reply, but any suggestions in the meantime are welcome

i would think you should pick up a decent trex 500 second hand for around that sort of money, but like Gixerman said it would be best to place a wanted add and see what's on offer,

Would a 450 size be too small? Last Blade 450x i had cost me less than £200 with an AR7200BX and a couple of lipo's...

usually the bigger you go the more stable they are if setup correctly, but a 450 size should be ok if , again, if setup correctly

Absolutely, but if the purchase budget is only £200, what are the 'lipo' and 'crash' budgets... I think they both play an important part in deciding on a purchase

Lipos for the 450 are relatively cheap especially from hobby king, as for a crash budget, it's hard to put a cost on them, I just buy replacement parts when I have a few spare quid ie. Blades, booms, skids etc. all the parts which definitely need replacing in a crash, so if it were to happen I usually have some of the parts required to get up flying again.

Same here, 3s batteries for a 450 are cheap as, 6S ones for bigger heli's not so much, same goes for pretty much all spares too, like you i have a couple of booms/sets of blades/shafts etc, the main crash parts sat here but not everyone can do that so need to consider crashes on a one by one basis and how much they may cost, no point stretching to the cost of buying a 500 when one crash see's it shelved for months when a 450 could be back in the air much sooner This is the reason i dont yet own a 700, because i cant afford to crash one lol...
