IHMO that's defo gov gain, mine does the same, just reduced mine tonight and it's noticeably better but the gov part of the equasion now doesn't work so well. Also the gov seems to make the tail kick. If you can put up with the noise and it's not causing any problems to the motor or drive train the gov appears to work better the more it's chirpin'
Suppose you could test the theory by temporarily disabling the gov completely and see how it behaves?

        The chirruping will stop

Glad it's not just me that can't get cc esc's to work properly. Seems all too common a complaint.

          Hi Shauny,
Sorry for the late reply. I changed the gain on my 600E pro from 25 I think it was, down to 20 using the "custom" setting. My 700E is still chirpin away at the minute! (battery went flat on the laptop!)
          Cheers

I'd love to know how the Kontronic ESC governor differs from the Castle one (ie. in how it works) as it definitely seems to work better. Trouble is, the Kontronic ESCs are somewhere around double the price of the Castle equivalents. For what it's worth, I find the CC gov works OK if you set the gain low. As I mentioned above, you do get head speed variance - but whilst you can hear it, it doesn't feel (to me at least) like it affects how the heli flies. I'm not a very advanced pilot mind, but that is one of the reasons why I'm not prepared to pay more for a Kontronic gov that I personally can't make use of!

Anyway, as soon as Angelos pulls his finger out (joking!) and gets the 'leccy gov released into the Vortex - I'll be trying that out instead!

EDIT : Below is a plot of my 550X using the Castle gov. Gain @ 10%. You can see in places an extreme variance of about 200RPM I think.. But overall, the HS looks pretty constant to me!

In my experience with Castle ESCs it has been luck of the draw, sometimes I'd get it working without too much trouble and other times I'd spend ages chasing the settings one way and another to try to get the right amount of power, gov working right etc.

What I did recently is replace two ESCs (Castle Ice2 120HV and YEP 120HV) with one Kontronik. The reason this is doable is because you can just set it up in mode4 and nothing motor-specific has to be programmed in. So then it's just a matter of physically moving it from one heli to the other, having it mounted similarly on both so that everything reaches etc. I can only carry one 700 size heli to the field at a time anyway so it's no biggie if the one left at home doesn't have an ESC temporarily

It's an innovative approach to the problem!, but not sure it's practical for everyone!

I've only just managed to hook up my heli to my laptop.
Is this the gov gain everyone is talking about? (where it says Medium 25 on mine?)

Wow! your IU1 is 1800? On a trex 700e? I thought you need higher head speeds to counter the tail hum problem that everyone was having?
Mine is 2050 on IU1 and 2100 on IU2 I think.. altho I never go on IU2. Should I lower mine then? I'm not doing 3D yet.. just inverted hover at the moment and I'm running Rail tail blades to stop the tail hum

Mine was set to Med:25 so I've opened up the custom setting tab and lowered it to 20. The low setting is recommended for smaller helis so I didn't want to go all the way down. I'll see how this works.

Thanks. I've lowered it to 15 and will test tomorrow. If it's still chirping, I'll lower it to 12. I might as well take the laptop with me tomorrow to the field as well I guess.

Not really sure about the headspeed relating to the chirping, mine tends to be noticeably better running on lower headspeeds though.

I still ill haven't flown it yet with the gov reduced as I was at Zone last weekend and the weather was pants the weekend before but I should be flying this weekend and I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

If it does work then I'll be increasing the headspeeds a little anyway.

                              Almost forgot to update this:
I flew yesterday. Guess what - no more chirping sound!
                              I'm happy!

Thanks for the gov gain suggestion. I lowered mine from 25 to 15

I had the gov set to 10 but you could hear it struggling a bit, upped it to 15 at the field and it's running lovely.
