To add to what Lee has highlighted find that rather than rate mode I adjust piro speed first, then I adjust the linkage to give me the same stops either side and then use pot 3 to crispen up the stops

Have you also increased your cyclic gain until the point your cyclics oscillate and then back it off a tad (just like when your setting tail gain)? Tweaking that better will help also. The cyclics can over compensate and this can also show up like what you are seeing. You could also be putting a command in without knowing. Try some expo

      Also...
nothing to do with your problem but the tail holds much better on the BeastX when you setup normal rate mode also.
You will get much more drift on a 450 bird than a 550. They are so light that the wind affects them much more. You need to be on your toes more with the small birds
Larger models are always easier to hover because they have more hang time so naturally feel more floaty if that makes sense. That coupled with more weight = less easier for the wind to push around. This goes for a fbl or fb model.
I haven't adjusted the cyclic gain from the defaults so far. I haven't seen any oscillation on either bird during hovering or fast flight. I could well be putting a slight input in though when doing the piros. I'm going to practice at the weekend. I'm using the pre-defined 'sport' mode on the BeastX. Not sure what the expo is in that mode, but when I flew flybarred on the 450 I was using about 20 percent expo on the cyclic. The cyclic is definitely more responsive / sensitive now that it is FBL so possibly there is less expo now that I need to get used to.

Finally got some flights this morning - the recent weather sucks! Anyway, had a go at some piros with both birds and they were spot on. Totally flat and well controlled. Must have been either gustiness or dumb thumbs previously. Great flights this morning. It's always a great feeling to get airborne again after a spell of bad weather! I love the 550 - just looks the biz in the air! And what a blade sound from it this morning!
