  • Soft 3d set up

    Hi all,
l've been sport flying my raptor 50 Titan doing loops rolls and the odd flip with a pitch set up of -8 +5 +10
Now after looking at some other set ups I've changed to -10 0 +10 I'm finding this this set up very sensitive and twitchy around the hover. I do want to start learning some basic 3d can I go back to +5 in the hover and still pull off some soft 3d type flying or is 0 in the center the only way to progress
    cheers Andy

    Soft 3d set up

For 3d flying you need 0 in the centre. You need the full control of both positive a negative pitch to do the stops and push offs after for things like tik toks and rainbows.

Oh yeh and wall stops, everyone should do wall stops

If you are running a linear pitch curve with + - 10 degrees then your hover upright and invert will be 5 deg ie 25 %and 75% ?

You need zero in the middle really, to give you even throw on pitch travel for inverted or normal way up.

you can soften the pitch curve either side of the zero in the radio. To soften or get how you won't it to feel.

Im just gettin the hang of them now!! Im a bit too hamfisted and put in too much opposite collective!

But to the op yeah you need 0 in the centre. I run -12 0 +12 and it took me a few flies to get used to it but it soon becomes second nature

You can have exp/dr to soften the center. But the only expo I have is 15% on tail throughout fleet and my 450 runs a s pitch curve.

At first -10 0 +10 does feel very sensitive but if you put some stick time in you'll soon get used to it.. you may even surprise yourself how quickly it becomes normal to you. Make sure the pitch curve is linear/straight line.

I have mine setup as degrees of pitch:

              +12 top stick
              +6 3/4 stick
              0 mid stick
              -6 1/4 stick
              -12 bottom stick

If you make yours +10 +5 0 -5 -10 that will give you a little more resolution on the stick to help you into it but +12 0 -12 plus a high enough headspeed is what you need for 3d.

Thanks for the replies guys I'll check my pitch curve and make sure it's right, i have 20% expo on elev, and aileron and none on the tail does that sound about right. Should I have less to get a more direct feel of the heli.

Expo is what u get used to. I run 25 on ele ali and 15 on tail, i like it others dont but it gives centre stick a nice soft feel for lazy flying

agree, epo on cyclic is personal taste. I use 30%

I found no expo on the cyclic made it too sharp on the sticks but some like it that way. I have 20% expo on cyclic and some on the tail.. cant remember how much now. Just helps soften that centre point a little.
