I have an iPhone 4, seems to do everthing I ask of it yet I have absolutely no idea what this thread is about!

Like danch said iOS5 will probably release at 6pm if apples previous releases are anything to go by!

Phil I have seen lots of normal 3G (not s) phones that were garbage after updating to 4. Like I said, I will probably take the risk but not until tomorrow or Friday to see if any issues arise :)

phil, it is more the signal issue that is annoying me ATM. i.e you can't bloddy get one. as an example-i broke my mrs iphone a few weeks ago trying to fix the home button so i got her a temp phone until the 4gs is about-long story short it gets a signal everywhere me/her never used to. one of those being the local flying field.

iphone=badge gadge on earth but also worst phone ever made.

Paul, we tested the theory at our caravan that a cheap handset will get a signal because it has less gadge than an iPhone or any other smartphone (used a blackberry as well as my 3GS) and it seemed to be true, I struggle for a signal using the iPhone whereas the cheap nokia we used to test it worked perfectly.

Usually turning off 3G on the phone in poor signal area's can help & added side effect of increasing battery life, I'll be the first to admit that the aerial setup on the iPhone 4 was a major slip up on Apples part but I still would not have any other handset as it just works for what I want

From what I have seen & read the iPhone 4S has been improved no end & I think more time & testing put into it, I also believe that they are holding off on the iPhone5 due to the 4G spectrum not being available till next year, coupled with waiting for the major networks to sort out their networks in preperation.

I'll also go out on a limb and say that I think they will release the iPhone 5 on the 1 year Anniversary of Steve Jobs death

Usually because smart phones will choose the 2100mhz (3g network) masts over 8-900 mhz masts (2g network) how ever poor 3g signal is still faster than good 2g signal. So your cheap nokia that cannot even connect to a 3g network might have full signal but the smartphone might have 1 bar of 3g
Once the 3g is totally not there it will then jump onto the older slower 2g network and may gain full signal like the cheap nokia that has been sat on the 2g all the time.
I have a live example of this in my house our iphones on vodafone get 2 bars of 3g the old nokia payg phone that is 2g only gets full signal (6bars) if i turn 3g off on the iphone i also then get full signal. So dont think that having 1 bar of 3g is a bad thing is still much faster for data etc than full Edge etc.

ummm, the phone i got the mrs is a smart phone and 3g bells and whistles etc. it is just simply better at being a phone than the i4 which isn't too hard TBH.

Like every other software update from apple it probably won't be released until 6pm. It has something to do with the time it's released in the states :)
