  • Bogus insurance claim effecting future insurance policies

Shortly after coming back from the rchotel in corfu a year or so ago I got a phone call out of the blue from my insurance company wanting to know the details of an accident that I'd had with my car. Both myself & the wife hadnt had an accident & this was only the day after we had flown back so we hadnt been anywhere in the vehicle for over a week. When asked about time & place of the incident they were extreemly sketchy & couldnt give the details. I told them to find out & then get back to me. I thoroughly examined the car & there were no marks to even suggest an incident had happened. Eventualy the coop agreed that this was a bogus claim & dropped it from my file held with them but they had logged it on some other system as now every time I try to get insurance I get loaded due to this false claim. I'm at my wits end with it now & have just had a demand from ebike insurance for an extra £35 loading on my Bike policy with a strong letter pointing the finger at me for not disclosing the details of a claim, a claim I know feck all about :( The Coop promissed me that this would be sorted via the phone on about 3 occasions now & it hasnt is there some way I can shake their tree & wake them up?

Unfortunately companies don't always do things they say they will do. My suggestion, and from experience, is to phone the Coop every day. Try and speak to the same person and if not make sure you get their name. Become such a pain in the arse that they get it sorted. Never be afraid to ask to speak to the next line manager and just go up the chain of command until you get a result. Also make sure they send you written confirmation that the claim is bogus, you can then send copies to new insurance companies to prove your point.

You can go to the top as well, remember the directors have their addresses published at companies house. A letter to their home address will work wonders as they wont like the fact joe bloggs has got their address and is hassling them. They will kick the people below them to get it sorted out for you, especially if you call them regarding the letter sent to their home address, if their PA wont co-operate mention the conversation is being recorded and as they are a customer based business perhaps they 'dont want to talk to their customers about an issue'...

This worked for a colleague when he was getting no joy going in from 'customer services'

I am now being ignored by ebike insurance who are demanding the extra money :(
I've just sent the 3rd email & threatened them with the ombudsman if he doesnt reply to my 2 previous
emails. I'm being threatened with refusal of insurance hence being uninsurable if I dont pay the £35 in 14 days

Definitely report it to the insurance ombudsman and if possible email Ebike with a copy if the information you have sent.
In addition get onto the Coop and tell them if they don't provide proof of the circumstances clearing you, you will report them as well

I had a similar problem with a car parking company who refused to reply to me. I got their fax number and setup a PC at work to send them my letter by fax every 4 hours. Took a week and about £10 in call costs but eventually they rang me !!!!

I think thats the only thing I can do Rob. Ebike are infamous for this sort of extortion it seems.
I have phoned the Co op & they have promised me it isnt on any system that they are using & was removed after my last complaint.

A letter/email from coop confirming it was a bogus claim, to give to ebike. Then goto the fsa for the coop failing to keep its records upto date under the fsa they are obligated to keep accurate records. Then charge them for your time and seek compensation via the fsa also.

The only way these people learn is when they get fined. I so remember when bank of scotland was fined oh the sh1t hit the fan and heads rolled inside for not keeping accurate records and miss management of data.

If only, in my experience companies never learn until something blows up, something kills someone, or some director gets arrested, and even then after a while it's forgotten.

I would forward the email to the coop, and ask them to explain how Ebike got the details if they...coop...did not tell them.

I would also point out that Ebike claim that the info came from them..

Then ask/tell the coop to contact Ebike, and put the records straight.

They have 7 days to notify you that this has been done, or the Ombudsman will be involved..
