  • Asking the forum, am I being to fussy?

    Hi everyone :)

I have a question as I'd like others opinions please, I've just got a new laptop everything works fine great build etc but in the top right of the LED screen theres one tiny red hot pixel.

You can only ever see it when the screens totally black other then that you'd never know it was there, so would it be making a song and a dance taking it back on the grounds of that slight blemish, I've always been a bit of a perfectionist and this is a curse more then a strength at times, so before I make a sixty mile round trip which right now really is the last thing I need at the moment things being a tad delicate right now, what would you guys do, ignore it as these do happen from time to time or get a replacement?

Thank you for any imput :)

No I dont think its being overly fussy, I have the same on a monitor at home, however the computer industry does seam to have a difference of opinion to me in that they have a specific number of these dead pixels you can have per screen. don't know how many but 1 aint going to be enough to get anyone to do anything i'm afraid.

By the way I moved your thread to off topic as its non heli related.
    All the best
    Tony.

      Thanks Tony, sorry mate.

Well if I did I was thinking if the 7 day cooling off period where you have the right to a refund or exchange and they haven't a leg to stand on regardless of your excuse?

It is very annoying, but as Tony says, I don't think it would qualify for an exchange. You could try this software, which can sometimes revive a dead pixel. Although I've used it without problems, use at your own risk, though. :cheers2:

          Thank you Brian

I've just had a mate look at it and he said its so blood small he's amazed I saw it in the first place lol, I think for this time I'll let my "its gotta be a billion percent perfect just rest on this one, as you and Tony said there's a strong chance they wont budge which will make this minute problem into a war, whereas apart from that its a fantastic little machine, the AC adapter does get a triffle hotter then I'm used to but again different machine different everything I guess.

          Many thanks :)

I agree with wayne. A dead pixel in view is not what id expect to see on any new laptop. I dont think its unreasonable to ask for it to be replaced within 7days of purchase.

1 Pixel isn't usually enough to get a replacement. It usually has to be a cluster to get them to take any notice at all. :(

Well I certainly wouldn't accept it. I expect a brand new item to be perfect, a dead pixel makes it imperfect and it should be marked down accordingly in my book.

One quick question first, did you actually go and buy this in a store?

If so then the Distance Selling Regulations, 7 day period to return etc. don't actually count.

Also if you have completely unpacked this thing, installed software etc. then that can also get in the way of a return under the 7 day rule even if you did buy this using a distance method.

Exactly how they will react to one bright stuck sub-pixel depends on the company, but almost none have a zero defect guarantee on these screens.

It is only a sub-pixel as well btw, if it was a whole pixel it would be either white or black all the time. If you only see this on a black screen and not on a white screen then it would suggest that the other two sub-pixels are working fine (green and blue).

I know these things are annoying once you notice them and there is no harm in asking about a replacement, just don't be too surprised if they politely refuse.

                            Hi

I work with displays and the technology is such that there is an aceptable number of dead pixels per panel. if thiis was not the case, then the laptop / tv or whatever would be much more expensive. i.e. it is not a flaw, it is part of having a high res tft.

I know it looks like a flaw, but the industry does not see it that way, unfortunatly.

Consumer laws state that items returned must be in a 'sellable as new' state. if it has had software installed, then this is not the case. Most industries will sort you out, but not really the pc / laptop guys - margins are so tight they dont care about customer goodwill anymore. i.e. they make more profit frmo having X% seriously ****ed off customers than they do by sorting those customers out - large enterprise mentality!

:-( good luck, its worth a try

I thought a fair few screen Manufacturers and Resellers had a grading system? I'm sure when I got my current display(Formac) they had various grades of the same screen with differing guaranteed maximum dead pixels?
