I guess i brought this up as you can become complacent when you have had no problems in the past. Sods law will say that at the most incovienent time it will go wrong. Lesson learned, And maybe a heads up for others.
I was lucky that it was an honest seller, The package had been left by the postman without getting a signature.....thanks postie. :ack2:

I can just about remember this stuff from my circa 1984 commerce lessons.

Recorded delivery gets you a record that the item was delivered and who it was delivered to. The item is not insured and no compensation will be forthcoming should the item become lost. Hence Recorded delivery is not suitable for valuable items. It would be suitable, for say delivering a copy invoice to a customer that has not paid for something claiming not to have received the original and copies sent by e-mail, fax, 2nd and 1st class standard post. The service costs 74p which is about 8 minutes at minimum wage, so I would say it is good value.

Registered post used to be the service for items of value. The sender being able to seek compensation up to the market value in the event the item gets lost. It is now called Special Delivery. The insurance is capped at £50 for pre-9:00 am and £500 for 1:00pm next day delivery. The service is a lot dearer than Recorded, but still only around 1/5th or less of what a courier company would charge for a similar one off delivery.

I understand the need to rant and I am glad it worked out for you.

I also understand that customers not reading Ts&Cs and then buying the wrong service is hardly the suppliers fault entirely. I could have my own little rant about that one ;)

          Ok, Fair point.
Lets say you pay a garage to mot your car. A few probems You pay them and assume they have done the work and give you an mot.
You drive away then get stopped and find you have 3 bald tyres.
You would be a little annoyed i guess. ( Lets ignore all the practicalities surrounding the example)

I PAID TO HAVE AN ITEM SIGNED FOR. IT WAS DELIVERED WITHOUT THE POST PERSON ATTEMPTING TO GET A SIGNATURE. THE RECEIVER COULD HAVE DONE WHAT THEY LIKED AND I COULDN'T EVEN PROVE IT HAD BEEN DELIVERED. IS THAT NOT FRAUD BY THE PO????

I have seen a photograph of the recived envelope and the sticker is still on it.!!!!!

          Grrrrrr
The contents of the package are largely irrelevant, Its about paying for something and not receiving it.

Anyhow, The po is poo, They have a monoply and us by the danglies, Cant even vote with your feet !
But in my case it would all seem to have turned out good...... DUE TO AN HONEST SELLER OFF THIS FORUM AND NOT THE PO!

All ended well though, so whats the problem?

If the buyer claimed he didnt receive anything and nothing was signed to say he had, you could have stuck a claim in for the full amount of the package and recouped your moneys.

Lol.. No problem... Kinda sucks when you realize you have over a period of time paid for somthing you haven received, I guess like paying for insurance then going to claim on it only to find the broker run off with your money..... But thats another story :)

this is very possible and the garage would be in the clear
as the mot tyre tread depth is lower than the legal limit to drive the car on the road

but the garage would have sold you 4 tyres
and tried to get the low brake pads replaced after asking you
