When shopping with my son for a phone a few weeks back, many of the guys in-store with iPhones were all saying the HTC Desire was a better phone. Indeed many of them had iPhones and wished they had the Desire.

Perhaps the mark-up on the Desire is more.

    :D

There will always be Iphone fanatics that will get the Iphone no matter what specs it has or the price. Apple have their die hard fans and always will. My friend is a prime example he would never consider any other handset. :)

I'm an Apple fan but I am still open to trying other phones but as yet I haven't found one I like more or even the same as my iPhone and I'm still on a 3G so a generation behind many :D

I've had HTC phones in the past(Tytn for example and my wife has one currently can't remember which model) I quite liked the Tytn hardware(build quality was ropey though) but just couldn't get on with Win Mobile having come from SE and Nokia handsets. It then died twice and had to go back twice and that was the end for me :(

Ive had the Iphone 3gs, HTC HD2 running on windows mobile and now have the HTC desire which runs on Android 2.1. Out of the 3 the Desire tops it, then the 3Gs then the HD2. Windows based mobiles are crap. Android 2.1 is in a totally different league. I would like to see the Iphone 4g in real life so I can compare it to the Desire.

yea my mate has a Desire very good and smooth but its new and fresh....

so what will be interesting how they stack up against each other

but in the mobile phone world people will become android fans, win mobile,RIM, or iphone fans. The one thing we can be sure of the mobile market is now in a big race to see who can produce the best stuff and for me let them and we reap the benefits :)

there will be little difference between android and iphone's only the apps that people make will become the difference maker and there beyond either companies control anyway, as in content.

I have owned various HTC phones over the years and they are good but in my experience can crash a lot. Haven't had an android based phone but have played around with the Desire and it does indeed look very good. I have the iphone 3Gs but it annoys me how many simple things it does not do, I will see what IOS 4 is like but am eagerly awaiting the new Windows Phone....

I like android. I hate windows phones. If i could have android on the iphone i would be happy!!
I use the phone heavily for work, my only downside is the iphone battery is unaccessable. The HTC desire i found glitchy/laggy on basic things like dialing numbers and texting. If the new iphone is faster thats cool, i never have any problems with multitasking on mine though, the only app i hate is the mail app i use that crashes frequently!

Strange that you have glitchy/laggy poblems. Ive had no problems like that with mine.

well I wo'nt be going with O2 this year. Only 500MB of data and now 20p per message. I'm either going with orange or Vodaphone. I'm thinking Panther 30.

That will be a contract free, handset only price. Still a freakin lot of money!

How much... they are going to be expensive on a £35 month contract.... Think it might be time to try the HTC Desire... can get it for free on a £30 month contract on vodafone.

I don't mind ditching o2 at all to another provider

I don't recommend buying ouright personally. Its £500 for the 16GB, £600 for the 32GB. Then on top of that you'll need a pay as you or simplicity which is goinhg to be £10-£25 a month. A contract will cost about £35 a month with an initial cost of £239 ish.

                                Buy outright = £599 handset + (24x£25 example) = £1200 for 2 years

                                2 year contract = £239 handset (guess) + (24x£30) = £959

I guess with buying outright you're not tied into anything, but personally I'd rather save the money and just get the contract.

They're just rough estimates, but you get the jist :)
