I would be honest and tell her, you don't hold good relationships by lying. Just don't go on about the hobby, just tell her once and be done with it, maybe say you had a good day with your buddies flying etc.

I still get branded a dork by one of my female mates - she says it in jest but shes deadly serious in her opinion. I don't care, she rides horses, I fly helicopters. It's YOUR hobby at the end of the day - eve if she does think it's geeky, I doubt she'll think any less of you for it. If she does - her loss! You can keep flying your helis without her :D

In 2008 at 3DM I was talking to some of the guys in the judging / organising
side of things and we all seemed to agree that the image needed to be revamped. I suggested some promo video clips, something moody and larger than life, like the Red Bull air race promos at the time.

Ideally this hobby should be seen in the same vein as extreme sports like freestyle motocross or something (I know it's not going to be seen as high-octane as things like that but the point being it could be loosely associated with more exciting things but this doesn't seem to be happening).

The reality is that the whole RC hobby has 'grown up' massively in the last however many years, with real turbine jets, very sophisticated electronics and finely machined and engineered devices, it's pretty serious stuff really, but still has this antiquated image.
