• stop using paypal.

hi all just a message since selling stuff on here and being paid with the gift option paypal has linited my account they are holding £600 and wont allow me to have the funds they say my account is too high risk as im getting too many gifts they have closed my ebay account and say i cant have my funds for 6 months. ive been on a paypal forum and im not the only one that his has happened to. it has been happening to alot of busineses i never knew how bad this was getting it seems like they make money on our intrest as they say you wont earn intrest on the funds wich obviously means they keep the intrest. here is one forum i have looked at PayPal Hell | This is Money .
paypal wanted me to send them invoices for all the items ive sold plus fax proof of purchase and postage obviously the stuff is second hand on over a year old. this is the 4th time paypal has limited my account so im going to wait the 6 months the finally close my account. anyway i just thought i would let ya know be careful they are realising we are stopping them earning on our transactions by using the gift option.

Well, we are not stopping them earning their commission because with the gift option the sender must still pay the fee.

But paypal are idiots. I have been messed around royally by them twice and have seen the level of their stupidity first hand.

By the way, their holding of money like that is absolutely out of line. I think there have been a few class action suits against them about that kind of thing.

I didnt think anybody paid fees when paying via Gift?

It just means that the buyer isnt able to make a claim agains the seller.

Unforutantely, Paypal are fecking useless, but it is a fantastic way of sending/recieving money (if there isnt anything dodgy going on ;))

there are no fees for sending or receiving a gift if you are funded by CC or bank account.

it was only a matter of time before paypal clocked onto this and tried to stop it. i guess holding your wedge for 6 months will stop it.

cheers

Well, call me crazy but I have ALWAYS had to pay a fee when sending payments, whether 'gift' or 'personal payment owed'. I have a 'premier' paypal account, verified yada yada. And sometimes funded with cc and sometimes with a balance.

Well I was ripped off in the reverse way. I bought a hard drive on Ebay and I never received it. Their courier (citylink) just flat lied and said they tried twice to deliver it (which doesn't mean anything under UK selling regs anyway). The seller told me they had it sent back to them because they tried to deliver it and acted like it was my fault for not being in or something, so it was well known that the seller had both the item and my money but he was just deeply dishonest. I went through the long and drawnout 'dispute' process but Paypal sided with the seller because he sent them a tracking number (the kicker being that the tracking number wasn't even a citylink number, which just goes to show how brain-dead Paypal are).

I then appealed and won... but they still wouldn't give my money back since I had 'lost' the initial dispute! It was utterly insane.

if you get ripped off, go to the police. I don't know about UK, but I'd be stupid not to. At least I get a sheet of paper that states I have filed a complaint. It may have some value later on.

BTW (not that I'm doing this every day...): Simply having a letter sent via a lawyer can be very efficient. It tells them you mean business.
An institution may be able to ignore it. But an underpaid clerk, even if he's working for the same institution, will think twice, if he sees a risk that it escalates beyond him.

Only problem is that could well cost you more than you just got ripped off for and go straight in the bin anyway.
