  • Anyone still got an old Amiga?

I've just bought an Amiga 1200 off ebay and it came today :D

I've just spent the last 2 hours playing a few games I used to have (more should arrive tomorrow!) and I'm amazed at how much gaming has come on, but how enjoyable the Amiga was to use and play!

I've just been playing F-18 Interceptor and Kick Off 2. I've got Pinball Dreams, Elite 2, Datastorm. Lotus Turbo and loads of others coming over the next few days :D

    My wife thinks I'm mad!!!

Does anyone else have one and if so when was the last time you dug it out?

Must be near on 15 years since i sold my Amiga setup! I remember buying a 340mb Hard disk for it... and it cost a fortune!

Some cool games at the time. Only thing i have from all those years back is a ZX spectrum emulator and various games which i fire up once in a while..!

yep, still got a 1200. I had the 50MHz 68030 board for it with 4MB RAM too. Superfrog was a fave, and many others too. I've still got loads of games.

Never owned one at the time, but I did write some demo's and even started to write a game on it in 68000 assembler :D
Used to own its arch rival the Atari ST and wrote some demos and a simple game on that in 68000 (oooo the joy of assembly language)

Even though the machines nowadays are way more powerfull etc, they just dont seem to have that 'buzz' that the amiga & ST had. Hell even did a bit of homebrew coding on the nintendo DS lite which felt real old school like the commodore 64 etc which was more fun than writing stuff in C nowadays etc.

ooo.. I did a slideshow disk for the amiga, so if any of you amiga owners ever come across it or any pics with M.Jervis or Stix as the signatures, would be really interested if you could get them onto the pc as I hunted round all over but to no avail as my mates sold thier amiga and the disks so never got chance to get a copy for myself..

I still have an Atari 1040 but I never played games on it. It used to have some of the best music software back in the midieval times.

I still play Manic Minor on a spectrum emulator, got my original 48k one back in storage at the parents house which still runs perfectly :) was never lucky enough to have anything between the speccy and a PC but also cut my teeth on the BBC model B 32k machines at school playing things like Chuckie Egg :D

I reckon the difference is the playability and addictiveness, although now days I do like a good 1st person shooter :)

Ah, memory lane, Elite on the BBC and later in colour and stereo on the Amiga 500. Wonderful times, I spent way too much time trying to increase my rank on Elite.

I still have a load of Amiga stuff here, the box that my heli toolkit currently sits on contains a "High Resolution" Amiga 1081 CRT monitor, it was the dogs danglies at the time. We used to set up Amigas as security control computers running CCTV cameras to them as at that time they were streets ahead of anything else in the digitising and video editing arena. I saw TV companies use Amiga 2000s for their video overlay capabilities. I wonder what would have happened if they had been owned by DEC or Compaq rather than Commodore.
