I was surprised to find batteries as well given it is wired. But maybe that is standard for a digital thermostat.

In my case the lever moved but would not start the boiler .So it could be that you have a faulty zone valve as i said before i have two zone valves and when i turned the pond heating on the boiler started that's how i new the other valve was knackered

Well. Just goes to show you shouldn't fiddle with things you know nothing about. Turned out the diverter valve was fine and it was a PCB that needed replacing. Have to say worcester Bosch were brilliant. Set fee of £269 for all the work and parts and they were round and done less Thant 24hours. Replaced a number of parts that were perishing and even replaced the diverter valve and motor as I had half savaged it. It's a lot of money I guess. But I had been quoted £100 +vat an hour just to find out the problem and then all the additionals. Far rather a flat fee for something than the unknown.
Maybe the valve is stuck that changes whether the hot water from the boiler goes to the Hot water Tank or the radiators, Try switching the valve manually as you can normally take the actuator off to do that.
not on a combi
I've got similar thing. Although when I turn on the hit water the heating also kicks in. I wouldn't say that's your problem. Is the pump running?
when you say the heating comes on do you just mean one or two radiators?

Chaps, i cannot believe that anyone not experienced would remove cases (affecting combustion) and start fiddling about in boilers.
                  It is dangerous and stupid.
dverter valves are a common cause for combi problems due to perished diaphrams. it is only a few quid item but i suggest you leave it to them in the know and gas safe registered.

worcester will nearly always chuck a board in as well as other bits. They do not want a recall and get their boards for pennies compared to the consumer.
you could have had that fixed and also been paid into a service contract for what you paid.

Moving house so didnt want a contract. But yes a contract was £325 for a year. Although sInce i have had the boiler for 8-9 years and it hasnt cost me a thing i would be very much out of pocket by now with a contract.
