..not just a silly accident. This was off-piste stuff and without seeing where they were it's hard to judge the hazards - obviously not a trivial slope or they wouldn't have been wearing crash hats - that's the bit that makes it a bit sad. On Piste everythign you might hit (apart from other folk) is thoroughly padded.
Before my assorted back issues i used to love skiing and had my share of bumps and bruises off piste - easy to trip over buried fences and obstacles unless you have a good guide. Some of the stuff we skiied down looked impossible and the class acts and real nutters were going down stuff that freaked you just looking at it.

Let's just hope he pulls thought this, If he does I think it will be while before he is back to normal if at all!
Head injuries are very complex and the recovery process is slow.
Richard Hammond totally recovered from his injury's, but that didn't just happen the day he walked out of hospital, he was emotionally tormented for quite a while trying to come to terms with what happened.

This is where he is meant to have had the accident which is in between the 2 ski runs so wasn't fully off piste per se but still there are some big rocks there & could have hit at speed :(
