There is a wealth of information on here. I lived in SA for many years, moved back to the UK 3 years ago. There was a fairly good, by the standards at the time, forum in Sa, RCHQ. Don't know if it is still going though. Used to fly at SA Modelsport in Benoni at the old heliport and before that at NERF just outside Kelvin.

But what i used to pay on medical aid, armed response, alarm company, car insurance and sattelite tracking on both cars, when i lived in SA, more than covers it here. lol.

Miss the weather and my friends though, but on the whole a good move.

            Thanks a lot.

We have one in Secunda but you have order parts from JHB which takes a few days if the items are out of stock.

            What Helis do you fly?

I got a KDS 450S a few months ago for my birthday and I decided I will learn on that until I am confident enough in my flying to upgrade to something bigger/better.

I upgraded almost everything to aluminium or carbon fibre because the plastic parts are rubbish. I am now comfortable hovering and some tail in flying.

Are they available in SA? How much?
I was thinking if getting a simulator but I am still doing some research on what to get.

I can controll the thing with ease, when its tail in. Trying some side orientation at the moment with training gear.

I would also highly recommend an MCPX as well.Think i would go so far as if i had to start all over again, i would buy an MCPX before a flight sim.You can pretty much crash an mcpx with impunity.Very little damage done, you do tend to lose the links on the head and break the under carriage . The body is also a bit flimsy but the aftermarket ones are tougher than a bushman. Otherwise mechanically bullet proof. It instills alot of confidence and because you are not worrying about crashing it, you progress alot quicker.Has really helped with nose in and stall turns.Have also had it inverted a couple of times for a laugh....

Thanks man. Will go and have a look if our LHS stocks it and what the pricing is.

Hey lads or should i say boet....
Dont even want to think what ive spent in the last few years ive been doing this in rand value,velo90,trex700 and a synergy n5 and the missus made me get rid of a few as i was taking over HER dining room, well extension.Point is i just couldnt afford this back in SA and have been very fortunate to be able to do this hobby,so just how expensive has this game become back home. This forum is great place for advice and info and very friendly as well.I started out with a 450 and progressed from there with the trex 500 being the best heli for me to learn on.For me the sim was a god send because every time i returned with my heli in bits and then went to the computer to order spare parts she usualy went mental,so 40 min a day went a long way to helping.Ive also been very lucky to have some top pilots help along the way as i found setting them up a minefield with so many people telling me different ways, are there many pilots to help you out?Anyways best of luck and welcome to a great hobby....
