  • Hi Fellow Heliadicts

Hello! I am John from Halifax in West Yorkshire. All my friends think I am mad starting this new hobby at 50. I started with fixed wing at ten years old building gliders and band powered balsa kits before progressing onto control line. Radio control was just out of reach at that time, my pocket money wasn't much. I turned to model engineering building working steam locomotives up to one third scale. Having done this for over twenty years the challenge isn't there anymore.
This last xmas my eldest asked me what present I would like, I told him a Helicopter! Having persuaded the other half its a life long goal I purchased a Blade 400. My only heli experience has been with co-axials prior to this.
So far two flights and one crash, just putting it back together and setting it all back up. Have turned a swash plate levelling tool out of alloy bar whilst waiting for the bits to arrive.
As soon as time and the weather permits I shall have another go.
A pheonix flight sim is on my birthday present list after alot of hinting to the wife, may reduce the damage bill.
    Anyway, thanks for having me.
    John.

Hi John, and welcome to the forum. Being a bit mad helps at this place!!!!!!! By the way, there are many of us in our 40s and 50s on here; I will be 52 in April, and been flying helis for a touche over 3 years.

Blade 400 and Phoenix are solid purchases.

Hi John, and welcome on board
Don't worry about the age thing, I'm well ahead of you but still loving these infernal heli things
Phoenix is a very worthwhile purchase that will without a doubt help you through the early stages and well beyond.

Btw, were not all mad here, honest

I didn't realise this place is full of OAP's, do we have to play bingo?

John, you're never to old to start anything. Who want's to grow old, that's my wifes job

Enjoy your blade and get Pheonix ASAP. Maybe you should explain to the wife that you have two birthdays just like the queen!

If you haven't already, seek out Boggy's Blade posts. Makes the Blade much less stressful to fly.

              Enjoy.

Welcome aboard John. Well you have the building skills for this hobby. I started when I was around eight building the Fly-boy & Hi-boy planes. Now back to balsa after mucking around with helis for a couple of years.

Eyup John. Welcome. I have not done anything like this in the past. I owned a little indoor heli and it surprised me how much I was on it. So I read up on the hobby watched a few videos on Youtube and here I am. I am from Bradford, I visited a guy called Geoff at Elite R-C Racing in Elland. I bought some stuff from there.

Hope you have lots of fun.
