Alot depends on your setup. With elec usually hook up in hold, ID1 switch position, flick out of hold use slow ramp up. With nitro start in hold, out of hold to normal and raise manually to decent headspeed and 0 pitch then in to ID1 before lifting. Very personal choices no right or wrong. Flying around in normal mode can be useful for another headspeed or for tuning purposes.

I did this for the first time on my 130X the other day. I'd done a loop and a flip before I noticed. Luckily I had plenty of height, and even if I hadn't the 130X would probably have survived.

As soon as I landed I went through all my models and set normal mode to 0% across the board on every model I have that has a soft start.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

              Inverted In Normal Mode?........Nooooooooo!

I've done ita few times now and it's always with new edge blades lol. Every time instinct tells you to try to get it back upright when in reality you would probably do less damage landing inverted lol

Funny Don, spoke to maj when I left the field and he said probably would have tried to land it inverted, hindsight eh?! Probably may have got away with it as well as it landed just off the runway in the wheat crop which is at least a foot tall now! Not enough time as I was low and as you say inverted is not the most natural position to land in.

Ive only done it once. Was with a blokes Raptor titan I was setting up for him too! A bit red faced I can tell ya!!

My helis have no pitch in normal mode all set to 0. I have to fly in idle up or they wont fly. Normal is just for spooling up the rotor
Some say my left nipple is the shape of a Raptor canopy.......... And that for fun I chase sheep in wellies 3 sizes too big. All I know is I am 3D Clod

Dont see the need for normal mode or leaving normal at zero pitch. Have mine set for +/- full pitch. This means i can have 3 different head speed setups. Ive programmed a slider switch to disable throttle in case throttle hold is knocked to off position

OK, so who hasn't done it? It could have been worse - on the flight line at Air for instance

Me? years ago with my 250. Picked it up and wiped the dirt off.

Luckily I had an audience of plane flyers who deep down were laughing there heads off.

Air flight line would have been quite bad though!! :-)

Lent my 500 a couple of years back to a mate for a flight as his helis were out of action at the time. He pulled a loop and realised that he was still in normal. Luckliy he continued through the loop and as it came round so did the headspeed.
It would have been a different story had he decided to hold it inverted though I am sure.
                              Bad luck mate.

I know its easy to say after the event, but could you not have just flicked the switch into idle up? (probably easier said than done when you're in a panic!)
I don't know cos iv'e never done it (YET!)
I like having the 3 flight modes and always take off and land in normal, but my flying is somewhat sedate!
What i did once do though, was land my 450 in idle up by hitting TH and doing a mini auto, then switched TH off and as i didn't have soft start set on my 'cheapo ESC' the heli spooled up full throttle and did a funky chicken beating itself up on the tarmac!
