  • Had a close one today!!

Out with the Goblin today. What a lovely day, sun, warm, Just perfect!
On my second flight, half way through, one of the EC5 decided to come unplugged mid flight, lost motor but I am running life pack so I did a forced auto. Bit of rough landing, but only broke the tail fin! Happy with that!

Guys, if anyone has second thoughts on running life pack for your servos, do it! I am so glad I did as this has saved my heli. This is my first heli with using life pack. I will be changing the rest of my fleet to same set up the next couple weeks.

    Happy ending.

Don, no not a genuine ones mate. But I been using the same ones for long time! I always make sure they are tight when I plug them in. This time was indeed tight when I plugged them in.
After the auto I plugged the same one in and it was very loose!!!! Very odd!

Paul I am soooo glad I listen to you about the separate BEC I had on the heli mate. That's the reason I went life in the end!

Just ordered a scorpion back up guard for this very reason, been worried about internal BEC failure for a while now so reading this has kicked me into gear. Thanks for your post and well done on a good save

Nice one, I had no luck with BEC's .. I had like three go on me, probably my fault though

I am running life packs on both the 6HV and 7HV, so much more simple and more reliable.

I don't think you can go to far wrong with a scorpion backup guard.

It saved my heli when I had a Kontronik 120 go pop

IMO running any electric heli larger than a 450 without using a completely seperate power supply to the servos is asking for trouble, it's not so bad if a 450 falls out of the sky but bigger than that and it could end really badly, at least with servos and rx you have some say in where it comes down.

The problem with the scorpion back up guard is you need to remember to turn it on
                          I know a few people who've forgotten
Its a shame it hasn't gott a built in circuit that powers itself on when it senses a signal via the signal wire.

No need for an expensive scorpion backup guard, just buy a tiny 200 mah 4.8v nimh battery of ebay and wire it in via a y lead. Gets charged as you fly from the main batteries and is there in the case of battery or bec issues :-)
