Align 2-1 regulator failure?

Today I was flying my Trex 600N. After the first tank I turned the regulator off but when I was going to fly it again there was only obe red light on the disply ang it didn't react when switching the on/off switch. The servos worked but the regulator was really hot and I also noticed that the cables had melted. What could have caused this?

A short of some sort, remember carbon is conductive so if the cable has cut through on a frame then this could cause it
