Twister Skylift

Hi All,
Disaster! My Chinook is grounded, I was flying it this morning and smoke began to appear from inside the fuselage.
Upon disconnecting the battery (which was hotter than usual) I noticed that the 3in1 mixer unit had gone into melt down.
Has anyone else had the same problem? I would be interested to know the possible cause/causes.

That sucks, I've noticed my battery gets rather hot after a flight too, I wonder if it's normal or maybe some issue with a particular batch of them?

Mine also gets very hot i think just due to the current drain of 4 motors. Not had a melt down though.

Have been in touch with J Perkins this afternoon, they have told me that they are going to look into the issue and get back to me asap. They are also going to look into whether they are prepared to replace my 3in1 unit as well.
Here's hoping, I've got withdrawl already!

Trauma, if J Perkins won't replace it contact the shop where you got it from - remember that your consumer rights still apply here and that you contract is with the shop not the manufacturer.

The goods should last the length of time that a reasonable person would expect for goods of that nature. If the goods stop working properly within this period of time, it may be evidence that they were not of satisfactory quality when the client bought them and that her/his statutory consumer rights have been breached.

Equally if they say it's due to a stuck rotor or something similar, you bought it under the impression that their new anti-rotor-stall technology would have prevented this and then refer to the above...

Oh man that's to much....Sorry to hear that mate.

Andy's correct, I went deeply into trading standard rulings a few years back, and so long as you've used the equipment withing the limits stated in the manual (which you have, how couldn't you not!) and the item develops a fault most company's have a "return to base" warranty, then pay for the postage back to you, as most good outlets do.

You don't want this investigated, you want it repaired, or if the repair and labour out weighs the cost for new, then a replacement helicopter should be offered.

Warranty's don't cover wear and tear, like broken blades or shafts, but when a unit like this melts down which is totally out of your control, this will be covered by the manufactures warranty

Either way don't take any crap, and if needed contact your area Trading Standards Office, and if need be let them take the case for you, but you must have everything in writing and documented, however I hope it doesn't get that far and you back up in the air shortly

Great news! spoke to the shop where I got my skylift and they have agreed to exchange my poorly one for a brand new one, yippeee.

just an afterthought, bear in mind that plugging the light set into the 4 in 1 could be seen as a modification and void any warranty...

The light set I bought was from the same shop I got the skylift from.
It'll be interesting to see if they argue it, not sure they'd be able to refuse, in any case the lights were plugged into the receiver (as per the instructions) and not into the 3in1 mixer.

Ah well, s'getting kinda 'spensive. I've got bits on order for the smaller 2, and will try and pick up some spares on Friday from Brentford, I'm going over there Friday to have a look at their shop, will take me 2 hours to get there by train but see how time goes may go to a couple of shops. But while I'm there I'll get the bits for the skylift, beginning to think I've bitten off more than I can chew here, as she just won't seem to trim out right.

I'd take the lights off before going to the shop and adopt the "what lights?" position to anything they say, thanks for your kind words about the crash, thankfully I know exactly what happened and can re-create the situation on the sim so an hour or two on phoenix should sort it out... ( I hope ).
