  • Ace GT5.1

I purchased one of these units (new out of a combo kit) from Jason at ultimatebuildandfly. Its now fitted to my Velocity Nv2. I'm running it directly from a 2s 2100mah lifeP04 rx battery.
the manual is a little foggy and poorly translated, but once you've got to grips with it not too bad.The touch sensitive pad on the unit also takes a little time to get adept with but also once practiced is again not difficult. The oled screen display is however tiny!and difficult to read in sun light! and care is needed to highlight the correct option before double tapping to select it.
Once fitted on the velocity I ran through the manual setting all the default settings recommended, in this respect the manual is methodical and laid out in order of use.
I then met up with Jason at charmouth last week and he confirmed I had all the correct settings and all that was left was to fly it and trim it up!
Today was my first chance to do that , so rather nervously (I hate doing maidens since my first! ) I started up and placed the heli on the flight line. I let it spool up slowly and at just under mid throttle and a little waggle of the sticks I could feel I had tail authority and the heli would tip in either direction on the cyclic.A little more collective and pop! up it went into a perfect stable hover...rock solid! No adjustments at all very surprising as the engine was as rich as hell and the fuel in the tank looked like white foam! after a few hops and clicks of the mixture mid/top end things settled down in the tank and the heli would just sit in front of me hands off! It was so steady as the wind started to push it sideways I could just use rudder to steer it down wind to let it gather speed then turn it and bring it back with just a dab of fwd elevator at the end!
To say I'm impressed is an under statement. I'm gobsmacked at how good it is! (Of course 3d is well beyond my talents so in that respect I have no idea how it will perform, but for a first time fbl unit for a fbl virgin who just like to fly helicopters how helicopters should fly Its great!)

A full tank of fuel took 365mah from the battery and a nice touch is the display shows max/present/and min voltages recorded during the flight.

I have a GT5 I bought for a song from a member here a bit ago, I've been putting off putting it in something due to lack of time to devote to setting the thing up.
Your post has given me a renewed desire to get it up and running, think I'll have a go tonight!
    Cheers

best I can say is get your head around the manual first! and work through it in order.

becarefull with the menu system. once you select a "group" the first icon will pop to the top of the screen with the next group along side, the next icon you need however is always the middle one. I kept trying to select the top one next to the first selected.(you will see what I mean when you switch on and go to the menu)

The GT5 is highly underrated, hence they sell second hand for bargain prices. It can be tricky to setup (due to the many parameters and atrocious manual) but I've found that it flies brilliantly.

Which is exactly why I was so chuffed it flew on the defaults! and I would hate to have to do field adjustment in bright sunlight with the engine running

I've had a few flights on this now and today with just 30% throttle(velo50 nitro) it is perfect for scale use. So easy to fly at a nice slow walking pace with no sideways drift at all.

Had the GT5.1 a while now and the only prob I've had is once in a while you will take off and the tail will drift, you have to just land and remove the battery to reset the unit. Still love it though.
