    ! battery.JPG

I would be interested on views about this battery. I have been told that the cell got puffy and ruptured then melted the plastic around it. It is not my battery just interested in any other comments as it does not look like any puffed then ruptured battery I have ever seen.

    Thanks

The battery (cell) is fecked and should not be either used or charged again. Store in a safe place away from other lipo's . I would not risk split the pack either for the other cells, you just don't know what state they are in as they went though the same bump or thermal-shock, not worth it IMO.

That cell is totally U/S, I would not either use it or try charging it either. The other cells in the pack I would bin because you just don't know what kinda bump or thermal-shock they've had so close to the other cell. Not worth risking an airframe, being on the out-side of the pack it might have just had a bump???

Oh I have no doubts this is no longer fit for use I was just wondering if any one had any opinions as to whether this is genuinely a cell that has puffed then ruptured. The damage to the wrapping to me does not look like it has been caused by puffing then rupturing.

Looks like accident damage and it also looks like it could blow any time.. would dispose of it, quickly.

                  Damaged battery

Just for what it's worth, in my experience if a cell puffs it affects the whole cell... That there looks like it is just the end of the cell.

I assume you sold it to someone who is trying to get their money back?

If I had to guess I'd say crash damage, hard to prove though.

You are correct this is an ebay thing. Now i normally refund or replace anything for anyone however. this one seemed a bit suspect to me when originally the customer wouldn't return the item for a replacement and instead wanted me to sell him one at a greatly reduced cost. If i had to guess he has peeled off the damaged casing and sent me this photo. hence why i wanted others opinions

I'd ask him to return it and look for crash damage.

If its eBay they should find in your favour surely?

Well if you posted it out and it was normal... then hes sent that photo back to you - I'd almost certainly say hes crashed it, damaged the battery and is now trying to pull a fast one.

As said the damage is at one end of the pack... it doesn't look like its actually ruptured yet or Puffed since when a Cell "Puffs" it looks like the whole cell has been inflated, in the picture, its just one end of the cell is dented/deformed.

On a practical note, there is no safe way to transport a lipo in that condition, it most certainly should not be sent via post of any kind.

I would say that it doesn't really matter how it ended up like that, unless the purchaser is claiming it was like that when he received it then it is not your problem as that can only be the result of misuse of some kind, most likely crash damage, or being dropped on a hard surface.

                            Yeah, that does sound sensible.

Maybe pay him a visit and tell him where to go

Don't use Royal Mail to transport lipos as it is now illegal.
