  • Os 50 hyper

Hi I know this may have been covered before but I'm new to all this on line chat. I have just started into nitro heli and brought a trex 600 with a os 50 hyper which decided to give up and the repair bill is more than the cost of a new one. So found out that the os 50 is now discontinued and looking at the os 55 as a straight replacement. I'm running a hatori pipe can I use this pipe on the os 55 as funds low and only had the heli 3 weeks. If so has anyone had good results thanks a lot

if your new to nitro than the 50 will be perfect for you.....non-regulated and easy tuning. maybe pick up a 2nd hand engine on here or BMFA and use the parts from that. i didn't know it had been discontinued but it will certainly be around for a long time yet IMO

Thanks for the info but brought a os 55 hyper. Kind of thought as the os 50 is naked and I need a new engine that it was worth putting in the upgrade as I have no intension of giving up this hobby. and spoke to fast lads and just engines and they say I can use my pipe on the os 55. not really what I wanted to spend but it will be a good engine that I can look after and no it will be treated right. Thanks for your response to my question.

Well dont bin the 50 Hyper. Get the parts slowly over time and rebuild it and have it as a spare engine.

yes I was thinking the same and build it up as a spare but it would be cheaper to buy a second hand one off here as when I priced up the parts it's around £160 so don't think I'm going to bother. But might see if anyone is interested in it as the block and carb are fine also the crankshaft is good

I'm still trying to investigate it when I stripped it i found Metal fillings in the centre of the crankshaft and the piston well scored up in several places plus the liner scored to deep.piston ring still intact but no movement on ring. Plus the heat sink head is well pitted. Checked the rear bearing but seems ok front bearing looks quite brown and when I put the shaft back in and turn it it feels tight in one spot. but what I don't get is the damage to the piston and liner as I don't no we're the metal has come from to cause the damage. I had a mate look at it who is well in to the hobby and it has baffled him as well I have only had the heli 3 weeks second hand from here and only run 3 tanks hovering with one and half turns out on the needle running 20% heli fuel so nice and rich. so as I said I don't get it if any one could shed any light on this would be great also glow plug intact

1.5 turns is a bit lean, mines nearly 2 turns out. But wouldnt cause that. The filings in the crank would be the residual fron the cylinder. Might just be the rings failed on it, without looking at it I couldnt say
