  • What's the best DIY KIT heli to get?

I'm looking to get a new heli to 'BUILD MYSELF' as i think i will learn much more about them than just purchasing 'PRE-BUILT' ones right outa the box.

I love making model's already, so it would be good to get a 'KIT' and start from scratch. i would also have the knowledge of which & what to unbolt following the inevitable crashes. i have a MSRx, Blade 450 3D and i'm looking to get a Raptor 30/50....don't know what kit to go for. Any ideas? money is an issue, but i don't mind saving up/paying for quality.

    Regards Ade.

A lot depends on your budget but you can't go far wrong with a kit from Align, especially since they mostly come with all the necessary electronics included in the package. I agree with Kieranar though, don't go smaller than a 450.

If im blunt, Hobby king dont sell a decent enough kit for the purposes your suggesting.

If you are looking at a 30/50 size your choices are as follows
                Align T-rex 550
                Align Trex 600
                Goblin 630
                Thunder Tiger Raptor 550e
                Thunder Tiger X50
                Thunder Tiger Raptor 620e
                Compass 6HV
                JR Vibe 50
                Blade 550x
                Ely-Q Vision 50
                Mikado Logo 600
                Outrage Fusion 50

All of the above kits will serve you well and are highly regarded for quality and ability. For online shops in the UK we use Fast-Lads, Midland Helis, Align-T-rex, generally as our first port of call before we start the google trawling
Some say my left nipple is the shape of a Raptor canopy.......... And that for fun I chase sheep in wellies 3 sizes too big. All I know is I am 3D Clod

Yeah, that looks like a pretty good list. One thing I would say... The Outrage Fusion looks like a great heli but I'd be a little bit worried about spare parts supply -always seems to be people moaning that they can't get parts for it.

Nothing wrong with the HobbyKing kits for the purpose of learning to build and tune a model helicopter.

I say this because they are often not perfect out of the box which teaches you how to fine tune a model to get it flying right.

HK-550GT 3D Belt-Drive Electric Helicopter Kit (UK Warehouse)

Belt drive FB version suggested for a beginner to building.

As Kev kindly pointed out you have plenty of choice! Is there anything in particular that you're after in a model? We could help narrow it down a bit, Id say a Align Trex or one of Thunder Tigers would probably suit you for cost and enjoyment of the build.

Plenty out there. Always comes down to budget and preference.

If going nitro, I'd look at TT X50, Synergy N5C or Align 600 DFC.

Electric, well I've only had the Fusion 50 which I absolutely love. Plenty of choice in electric 50s also though. If I could
afford one I'd love a Dune 600 one day

If you fancy a 90, I can recommend the Rush 750 even before I've flown it. The engineering on it is superb.

I got the 500 efl Pro and it is a superb kit. The super combos come with everything you need (bar Tx/Rx and batteries). A good size and stable in the air. Takes a wind better than a 450. You'll love the super combo (flybarless?).
