  • Starting 3D

I am now at the point where I want to start to learn some 3D stuff. I am already doing some inverted hovering and basic flips, piro turns etc but rather than just try whatever takes my fancy I wondered if there was a recognised sequence to moves to learn?

What should I learn in what order?

Is there a good set of vids to get a feel for how to do each move?

Always thought that piro flips were a good place to start. If you can do flips and piros it's a matter of combining the two at a basic level and you can progress to more more complex flavours as and when you can.

      These might help:-

      Tutoriales de maniobras en (video)

Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

I learnt the fundamentals for 3D in the following order, stall turns bot directions, backwards, forwards and sideways, barrel rolls, forwards and backwards from left to right and right to left. loops forwards ,backwards and sideways from both directions. Pie dish both directions with inverted and upright. These were the fundamental moves i learnt and is a very good base for any 3D move you wish to try. From here i learnt piro flips, loops and tic tocs. And pretty much everyother move thinkable. Dont forget we can do inverted autos aswell

if you can fly around in all directions and orientations. Id say start with tic tocs. You have to get the timing right or you lose altitude fast get these nailed all orientations then go on to rainbows which is just a variation of a tic toc. Piro flips are all about timing and I think its best to learn timings from the tic tocs before you go to the piro flips.

Mainly because you need to be inputting the cyclic movement to make the helicopter flip AWAY from you at all times depending on where the helicopter is in the pirouette. Its not bloody easy!

Awesome mate, thanks for this. I'm going to give those 4 point flips a go next time I'm out. Nothing I haven't done, but doing so in this fashion may help the brain training and muscle memory!

              Thanks guys.

I views the piroflip vid. That seems impossible right now. Even doing the 4 orientations would challenge me if I were honest. As a 3D beginner it is awesome watching those kinds of vids because whilst I can fly well enough to understand what is going on my flying isn't fluent or fluid yet so I lose orientation very quickly if things happen too fast.

Looks like I have a lot of practicing to do before I can start on the 3D road.

Hahaha yes you are 100% right plus u have to mow the flight line and pull out low tail slides
