  • 600 or 700

I have been flying 450 size for a while and recently a T Rex 550E (flybarred). I love the 550, it's far more stable and easier to see and easier all round. I also love the sound of those rotor blades! I will soon be going to the next stage and, having noticed that the TRex 600 and 700 both use the same batteries as my 550, I'm just wondering which you feel is nicer to fly. I have 6s 5000mah Turnigy lipos at 20c and some at 35c. They fly the 550 fine. I'm a relative beginner so only doing fairly sedate flight. But I will also be buying more lipos later. I'm excited at the thought of a big TRex 700. Any thought also on flybar or FBL? If you've flown both 600 and 700, what's your favourite?
    Thanks

Can't go wrong with 700, nice and stable and that bit bigger in the air than the 600.

I have a compass 7HV which I can highly recommend, very smooth, lovely to fly and really well made.

    FBL all the way

Those packs should be fine in either

      Re: 600 or 700

Go for the 700 size as you could series them to 12s to fly the 700 while you could fly a 600 as well on 6s but it will be hard on the packs. 700 has a very sedate and precise movement due to its size. Never had a trex 700 but have a 7hv as well, also have a trex 600 and a 6hv both on 12s. I prefer my compass models right now esp the 6hv vs trex 600; it is like a 600 on crack, to think that I used the same specs and have the same weight.

There really isn't a lot of difference between a T-Rex 550 and 600 so from a physical size point of view a 600 isn't much of an upgrade.

What batteries are you running on the 550? If they are 5000mah 6S then going to a new 600 would mean you couldn't use those batteries. The older 600 uses them like the 550 but the newer 600 uses 2 smaller 6S. So going to a new 600 would mean new batteries. A 700 simply doubles up on the 5000mah 6S so you already have the batteries.

When I looked to get a 500/600 size heli I was torn between the 550 and 600 and in the end I went for the 550 specifically because I knew my next one would be a 700.

I would get the 700 if I were you

Couldn't agree more. I personally think that the 550 is the heli that the originial 600e was supposed to be. A 6s 600e would now feel like a down-grade wheras a 12s 600e pro would need a pair of 6s3000-3300 packs. I have a 700n and a Raptor 90E both are fantastic. My 550e is the beater, bought because it uses the same packs as the Raptor 90E.

Another thing to consider is the cost... If money may be an issue for you then the bigger you go the greater the running & repair costs.

              600 or 700

I would go 700... It's not that much more expensive than 600 and you'll just end up wanting one anyway. As mentioned, you can share 5000mah packs too.

Take a look at the aleesrc rush 750 - I just bought one and I am astounded at the quality... It's big too! Nice thing is the packs are saddled too so no need to make a 12S pack which means easy sharing between 550 and 700.

Thanks chaps. I was hoping for an excuse to get the 700 and now you've all told me to! Thanks for the info on the batteries, 450man, I didn't realize the old and new 600s were different in that respect.

Unrelated question: on this forum, how do you put info about your helis etc under each post? There is a feint line and under this on most posts is a list of what you all fly.

                  Re: 600 or 700

Its on your settings edit signature and you could type all your helis in there.

It's called your signature. Under your profile, if I remember correctly.

They've added that stuff to their signatures. Top right corner of this page you'll see 'Settings' on the toolbar. Click on that then look at the left-most panelled column for 'Edit signture'. Click on that and add your heli's/equipment/epeen in that editer. When you've finished save and enjoy.

                        +1

There isn't much difference between the 600 & 550 - the only real difference is the power setup, the 550 uses 1 6S 5000 pack, where the newer 600's use 2 6S ~3000 Packs so is 12S.

As said the 550 is what the older 600 should have been while the newer 600 runs much better on a 12S setup.

But short answer to your question, as you have a 550 go for a 700, the batteries will fit both models and the 700 will be more of an upgrade from your 550, a 600 will still be different to your 550 but not as big as a step.

I'd take a look at the goblin 700 myself ;-)
