  • Voltage Regulator

    Hi,

Trying to kit out my new Rave Env as cheaply as possible (But not riskily)

Can anybody confirm that an ElyQ reg is same to use? Im concearned about the little switch on the board, possibly vibrating off?

    Cheers

    Stan

elyQ reg is fine, turn the little switch on and hotglue over to stop it turning off, and then add the secondary failsafe switch, fails on

You buy an expensive machine usually with expensive hardware and electronics likely costing way over 1.2k and yet people feed it with power from a £30 bec do I need to say anymore lol?

I'll start u off r2 prototyping hv2 bec the ultimate BEC guarenteed no drop in voltage 50amp is the best thoroughly recommend it for a quality high performance relaible BEC (see my sig)

If you don't wanna spend quiet that much gryphon or wester robotics. .

Thought i was in for a roasting then Swale. I ask the questions because i have spent top dollar on the leading products Cc top esc and it failed on me so, more expensive doesnt always mean better.

he mentioned a budget, thats what i quoted, swale

if your not using hi voltage chris, maybe a life pack and miss out on expensive reg. another option

              check my Sig

Lol no...I have seen way too many BEC failures its not about cheap gixxer it is risky dont run cheap BEC'S

Check my sig was ment to guide the OP to the BEC link I speak of as most havent heard of it here in the uk as yet

                  I See, furry muff.
i use kontronik Bec, if he is using normalish servos maybe the life pack is a reliable route, others do seem too use this system.

cheers i will now have a look at your link

Well i like the idea of a new/less familiar brand, but the price tag on those rather expensive lol. Maybe they are a case of get what you pay for?

Guess failing that life or direct lipo if hv although....we are about to release alot of test info in due course explaining why direct lipo and other becs cant cut the mustard. ...

I'll share this brief bit of info in our HV tests all stand alone BEC solutions where dropping to a worrying 4v or less (no load) from 8.4v.

Mikado also ran tests of many different solutions the graphs are available for view....the closest thing to a good power source was kontroniks jive with a buffer pack.

In general one thing you can always do to get ideas or validate an idea about a component or setup is find out what some of the top guys are using. It can take a bit of Googling sometimes.

BECs have become fashionable now that there are lots of electric helis out there but there are many regulators that will do the job with room to spare. A few that come to mind are; Gryphon Extreme, Scott Grey Reactor, Fromeco Arizona, Flightpower 'Flighttech'. I don't have any experience with the Ely.Q reg myself but I know it has been widely used as well as the Align 2 in 1 (although I have heard of reliability issues with the Align 2 in1).

I always want redundant power connections to the RX or FBL unit.

Another option is running a 6.6 volt LiFe pack direct, as long as all your servos can handle it.

Basically, find someone that is flying harder than you on a similar size heli and see what they're using.

See this is the thing and my self up until recently would agree with you until you see the the tests done showing massive voltage drops...so in effect your top dollar hv servos...well aint HV in the real world

And you can feel the difference stops are super strong and the servos feels faster in flight and under load..they are being fed the power they were intended to run on

I will get the graph posted up tomorrow I dont wanna be making statements like this without some sort of proof.

Yes the certainly are should be the only BEC you will need for some time!
