I'd want something with a few bright colours on it and my Union Jack - wouldn't mind having a few canopies to match each of my models. So a Sceadu .50 one and A trex 450 done in the same scheme - I'd be up for that!

When it's a personal design.. specfic to the owners request.. ie a one off

then people expect to pay extra for that..

Never sell your self short if you have a skill/talent that a lot of people desire. The secrect is to create a following, and generate a name for quality and flair.........

im hoping all of my designs will be 1'offs but then again im going to be painting 3 very special canopies in very special designs , very complicated , very custom and very nice. these 3 are then going to be auctioned on here for 5 days each , highest bidder gets it. these will be absolute 1'off's and i will never re-create them.

we will be doing a Synergy N9 Canopy , Raptor 90 Canopy , T-Rex 600 Canopy. they will all be posted on here with photo's when completed

this is hopefully going to raise enough funds for a more up-to-date compressor and water trap

They are just imported canomod canopies. You can also buy direct from them I have in the past one occassion.

Ok heres my figures so far.

                        Workspace almost 100 a week

Mixing scheme (mixes any colour in the world ) - 5 grand

                        new compressor - around 800quid

baking system - around 2 grand

                        spray area (i.e booth) - 2 grand.

its a hell of alot of money to pile into a place plues theres extra like ill probably get new airbrushes , a multi brush manifold etc all in all its going to cost in excess of around 15grand to get started.

I need to know theres a market involved. i plan to aim my business at the RC world , painting anything from truggies to heli , planes boats you name it ill paint it. even sticking 2 coats of lacquer over standard stickers to protect them from the fuel and wear and tear.

please tell me if you would use my business i really do need a market. if you were happy with the job done would you tell your friends at the field? would you pass on my info to your local hobby shop? would you come back for more?

                          Hello

I'm new to this but I would definately use your service if you could do custom designs of the customers designing!
I would definately use it because it would make a heli stand out of the crowd!! The only draw back would be (as I'm a very newbie) turning up at the field/indoor hall with a kick ass looking heli then flying it like a drunken man with only one hand on the TX lol

If your skill levels are at the top of your trade then I think thier will be a market for it, but I wouldn't bank on just the RC trade. I would think out of the box and look at other markets such as biker helmets, bike petrol tanks, thier is a local company that is into concept bikes and they make clay versions up of various bike parts and show them at exhabitions, plus I know a guy down south who builds custom choppers these I suspect would yield greater volumes of work. The thing is though people will want to see your work first before dipping thier toes and buying into it. You'll have to make various examples to show off.

Before starting your business though as well as knowing your market, you need to add more costs into your initial workings.

Business Insurance, Local Business Rates, Water, Electric, Gas, BT, Advertising, Website design, ISP, Vehicle Costs (ins, fuel, tax and possible exceptional costs), postage, banking costs, some still do the first years free but not sure who does it these days. Finally you need to be realistic in terms of your wage and again work out a budget bare minimum to live off and work from thier.

Get in touch with Chamber of Commerce or Business Link. For alot of startup businesses you can get grants and support. Especially if you have cash in the bank don't spend it get the grants awarded and save as much of your own capital for working capital. I seem to remember for example South Tyneside used to give a reduced or zero first year business rates.
                              Cheers
