One of our club members had the same problem, turned out to be a faulty RF board that he got swapped out for free, seems a few 8's are having this problem!

for what its worth, my DX8 does not fair a lot better, maybe 20 metres till it all starts jittering when sitting on the ground, however I have the spectrum flight log fitted to all my helicopters and if i get 5 fades from any antenna, thats about it. it has been like it since new (about 2 years old now at least, and 2000 flights), and I fly till the helicopter is a dot in the distance sometimes, never had a range problem once its in the . Not saying that yours is right, thats just my observations

Looked at your picture, aerials are masked by the carbon fibre frame, thats not good. I always make sure that my satellite aerials are clear of any masking from the carbon fibre fuselage. the left hand aerial (as you look at the satellite from the front ) is the actual active aerial, sit it at the back, near the drive gearbox, or boom mount, if its belt driven, upright so that aerial is masked by nothing. use a spectrum extension lead if you require greater length. always sit the other one at the front of the helicopter, but not near the carbon frame. thats what I do, never let me down yet.

Yes my Velocity 90 has a satellite mounted on the plastic part of the landing skid assembly, works fine for me, and as you say no masking possible
