Why wouldn't you use one of these with a larger heli than 450 size?? Seems perfectly OK to me!!

    OrangeRx T-SIX 2.4GHz DSM2 6CH Programmable Transmitter w/10 Model Memory (Mode 2)
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

When the blue light is flashing I am kidding.

Why simplify when it is so much simpler to complicate.

I wouldn't use it for the simple reason that who knows what GUID its sending during the bind process, its like going back to the old 35mhz days. If you are flying by yourself you shouldbe OK. I would be very surprised if any club would allow the use of these.

Reliability, trust, consequence of it going wrong.

It may be perfectly adequate and fit for purpose, it may not be.

I have had trouble with 1 of my orange receivers, and not with the other, so I would doubt the quality control is as good as it could be.

i trust my Spektrum, and those that dont trust their futabas.

If you would trust this, then give it a try, but I personally wouldnt. If they cant get their receivers to work reliably I wouldnt trust a Tx from them.

Ok i tested one of these. The data communications to the RF block is identical to spektrum so much so that if you take the RF block from a DX4 it plugs stright in I have proven this. Its basicly a DSM2 version of a DX6i with better progrramming. It has a nasty colour case but its not a bad set the gimbles are smooth and it does what it says on the tin...

But is it type approved for use in the UK?

I suspect loads couldn't careless about approvals only price. The 4 x AA should sound alarm bells as the BMFA suggested unless the DX6i was fitted with a welded pack it would be safer to not use it. MK Heli Club prohibted the use of transmitters with primary cells and packs that were not welded.

So it sounds like a bargain and the price is really good.

It isn't that hard to put in a connector - I could use a battery pack.

I noticed that it does have a jst connector already, so that just leaves the question on whether it is approved for use here in the UK.

As I fly at a BMFA affiliated club I doubt I will be allowed to use it if it is un-approved.

I can't see how it can be approved, Horizon Hobby have not given Hobby King a set of unique ID's for these, so there is always a possibility, however small that you may be using the same ID as another club member. If you want to fly at a club get a genuine transmitter if you don't want issues in the future. Remember the recalls a while ago when Futaba sold transmitters with incorrect ID's.

The orange RX's are OK for club use though, but some clubs may still ban them for anything larger than a 450 or park-flyer type model.

It seems to have the same spec as my JR3810.

I have no intention of getting one.

I write more as a warning for others that should they turn up at a club with one then don't be too disappointed if you are told you aren't going to be allowed to use it.

Correct, If you need a governor channel then this radio wont work, but the OP mentioned not using it for a helicopter bigger than a 450. An electric 800 size helicopter will work with 6 channels cos it doesn't need a gov channel, would anybody use this radio for an 800 size helicopter though.
