  • How to spend 8 hrs configuring an fbl..

After the last little ding I rebuilt my 500 (again) yesteray and throught it baout time I updated to beastx v3 and redid the setup...
<sigh> it was enough to drive me back to a flybar..
I decided to wait until this morning: walk the dogs, breakfast, call my old mum and have a potter..start about 11'ish..
    Boot up shed laptop.
Find the beastx site and do things properly..actually read the setup pdf. Note that while it goes through the setup there's actally nothing there about how to update the darned unit...
An hour later having read through and making sure there's no suprises in V3 it's time to download the windows files..
    Coffee
Try to find the how to update documentation.
A long time later ploughing through forums and rubbish I actually found the link.. sounds easy
Extract the windows files, dig out the dongle, set up tx, heli and power up.
    Like hell will it autodetect
Some pratting about later I find the file that wants to relete and reinstall the usb bridge stuff
Now it wants the blasted laptop rebooted!
And two goes later it actually detects the thing.
Ah, should be easy now..lets download the update. Shoot, you cant just do that.. reconncet everything and find the bloody serial number, copy endless digits and wait for an email copy..
(now why the heck isn't there a simple 'press here' option on the software to go fetch the bloody file if there's an internet connection?)
At this point my blasted laptop decided it had downloaded another program update about something, chuntered to itself endlessly and wanted another reboot...
    Coffee
Rebooted and ready to go but wait.. a load of barking as the dalamatian finds a stray sheep in the garden and decided to play sheepdog. I go to sort it out and the stupid sheep starts to try and intimidate me.. fat chance.
Seperate dog and sheep, chase sheep back up the drive.
Back to the laptop and finally, finally get the update sent to beastx and confirmation it's done.
Now just the actual setup to do..
laptop battery dies and switches itself off, tx bleeps and I have some recharging to do..
    Lunch
Right, lets get on with it..
Another scan of the manual to save mistakes...
    30 mins later (it's a long manual...)
Work through the setup, double check as I go all the way to the 6 degree bit making sure everything is spot on.
Dalmatian scrabbles at the door..I open it and the little shIt is grinning from ear to ear and play-pouncing at me.
(translation: I'm bored get the quad bike out and I'm going to be a PITA until you do)
    Get the quad bike out..
    A muddy half hour later..
    Coffee
    Back to the shed
Fire up all the toys again and work through the rest of the setup.
    Should I charge a pack and test-fly? B*gger it's drizzling..and it's starting to get dark..

Can completely relate to this experience - this hobby can be very testing at times! But I feel it makes it all the more rewarding when you actually get the bugger to fly!

I Have had some trouble setting up my governor on my heli (after the refit) and went through a similar long winded process to get it fixed/working. Google/forums and a member on here (Alastair) proved to be the Knights in shining Armour with helping me out with it all!

I know that feeling, feel like I have been trying to work out stuff for weeks. Problem is soon as I forget or rush one aspect, something goes wrong (rushing gyro set up cost me £30 in parts on my maiden!!!)

"Rushing" never ends well in this hobby. Its best to take the time, be methodical and check things two to three times before flying... saves on dumb mistakes! =)
