  • What lipo for dynatron

    Hi all
I am looking for a good size 5s lipo for the dynatron as ive read 6s is a bit harsh on the engine and i would like it to fit the minature aircraft battery tray and i think 2500 /2800 mah will fit from what ive read but what brand etc Or if any of you have one that will start. 91s and 120s without any trouble let me know many thanks all:beer:

4S is more than aquate,..... 6s is mental and the starter wont last all that long , just like the starter coupling !!!!!!!!!!!

        4S up to 5000mah is fine :-)

Personally i just have an Irvine superstarter on 4S and it starts my 105 O/S no problem :-)

I think 5s is the way to go on the Dynatron, especially if you want to turn over a 120 easily, 3600 I think mine is. Works perfectly with my 120.

The switch on the dynatron is just like a set of relay contacts. At switch on using a 12volt supply the motor draws 30Amps. At a higher voltage that current draw will be higher which will cause those contacts to spark with a possibilty of them welding together.

A couple of guys at the club use a relay powered from 3S to switch the motor on with 6S.

Depends on the weather. If you plan to fly when it's really cold, 4s isn't enough.

                Re: What lipo for dynatron

Started with a 6 cell 5000 and it had that much power it started to damage my helicopter / starter wand / switch etc etc . It had way to much power, it will work but things did not last long. Open lipo surgery started cut one cell off to make it a 5 cell, which was better but still a bit much. It would spin it over that quick you could feel the clutch dragging. Another attack with a soldering iron and tape and made it a 4 cell, and much softer on the starter couplings, still will start anything, but will stop if hydro locked and not bend con rods.

Recommend 4 cell strapped to the side of it :-)

                  4S 4500 does 120, 105, gasser, everything.

I've seen 5S and 6S rip clutches and one way bearing.

                    What lipo for dynatron

Like Gareth has already posted, most of the pilots I know are using 4 or 5s, Sesame uses the 18volt Makita drill battery conversion.
                    Look at the toque/RPM,,
The following is from the Sullivan web site,,,

Dynatron Starter. The most powerful Sullivan 2.50" starter. Features a machined aluminum drive cone with pulley groove, 2.50" diameter steel body and gold end caps. 12 or 24 VDC operation, maximum 80 amps. 340 in-oz (240 N-cm) of stall torque at 12V, 680 in-oz (480 N-cm) at 24V. 4800 no load RPM at 12V, 9600 no load RPM at 24V. For most engines up to 2.4 cubic inches (40 cc). No. S603.

Rubbish, I've been using 6S on my dynatron for years and it is fine.

                          I use a 4S 2300mah 25C, starts a 50.nitro fine. Perhaps use a 6S for a 90.size though. Although saying that, my starter smelt of burning when I tried a 6S

I used 2x 3s in series for a while but my starter button kept welding shut which was baaad

Now running 2x 2s 3600 in series and it works fine, Ive flown my OS105 in the snow.

That's your oppinion and you are entitled to it :-)

Mine is based on experience of terminals welding shut ;-)

Good for you that yours works so well , without any problems , and long may that go on .
The point i was making was generalised for all models , bang your 6S monster on a hydo locked 55 and see what that costs to fix ;-)

Not saying 6S doesn't work just advising against it :-)

                              happy days
