  • Hs3sx and receiver questions

I want to use my helicommand on my #2 heli.
I have a spektrum AR8000 but no sat to go with it,
    Can I use the rx without a sat ? It's for a trex 450.
I see the rx has 1antenna.....
Or do I have to get a sat for the ar8000?
Also if I get a sat, can I just use 1 sat direct to the hs3sx instead of 2 sats?( without using the ar8000)
    Cheers

    Re: Hs3sx and receiver questions

I wouldnt run an ar8000 in a 450 just put one sat straight into the hc and it will be fine and much simpler too .

I have 1 dsmx sat in my 450.

Yes, one sat is fine if it is positioned correctly so there is minimum chance of blanking. Just plug it into the correct socket... can't remember which one it is but if you only have one sat then it must be plugged into the correct socket.

Personally, I have never run anything other than 2 sats on my HC3-SX simply because I couldn't see any reason not to for the sake of an extra £15 or so for the extra sat.

I would much prefer to use the sat than the AR8000 given a choice.

The AR8000 cannot be used without a satellite.

One satellite with Spektrum is asking for trouble, one satellite = one antenna, the Spektrum system is based around using antenna diversity to ensure a good signal path to the model, with one antenna you have no diversity.

I can't see why you'd risk the model and potentially safety, for the sake of buying an extra satellite. Either use the AR8000 with a satellite, or buy two satellites.

I agree that its worth it to buy the extra sat for the safety but Ive had over 200 flights on my 450 without a problem so it shouldnt be an issue.

Dont the ar6115es etc only have 1 antenna as well?

Spektrum don't make it easy to tell, but some receivers like the satellites have two wires making up one antenna (dipole), others have two monopole antennas.

So just seeing two wires doesn't tell you much

I think you'll find that the AR6115 has two monopole antennas so it does offer some diversity.

You have to be careful where you put it to get the benefit though.
