  • Help me spec my 700e

I've got a 700e on its way (thanks to Madgooner99) for which I need recommendations on spec'ing, particularly the FBL controller.

I'm progressing far quicker than I expected. I started with a honeybee 12 months ago, got it hovering and expected to progress to a 450 after a year, but bought one after 3 months and started flying it 8 months ago, got a FBL100 6 months ag0, then added another 450 with a scale body 3 months ago. I expected to progress to something bigger, possibly maybe a 700, in a couple of years. But now I've gone and bought one!

I'm going to equip it intially with a Turnigy Helidrive SK3 motor & YEP controller, Savox servos and I'm planning a helicomand H3C-SX, for its self-leveling and bailout functions. This is where I need assistance. Are there other FBL controllers with auto level and bailout that I should consider? And I'm I correct in my understanding that whilst the gain of the head gyro will not be adjustable from the tx without a 7th channel, the Helicommand will work with my Spektrum DX6i?

All help will be gratefully received.

I think the MSH Brain has an auto level function, however despite the initial hype it never gets much mention.

Whatever you do a GOOD fbl controller and servos go a long way, that part of the electrics need to be as precise as possible.

It has 710 radix blades, and good quality servos and controller are at the top of my list. Lipos will be turnigy, because I like them!

I'll look into the skookum, MSH, and I presume the VX1 is by Spartan.

Kev, please express your opinions. Some of us find them useful, even entertaining!

Im glad you saw the funny side!!

You wont go wrong with them radix mate, I assume its got align or radix tails??
Servos if your budget can afford Futaba BLS 451 for swash and 251 for the tail (needs a stepdown aswell that)
                  and Spartan VX-1 controller

Turnigy batterys are great imo and for the powerplant, id say get a scorpion esc/motor combo but thats just my choice. Or a kontronik/pyro combo would be good too

See I can be serious when drunk LOL

That's a bit conservative. I'd have thought you'ld go straight for a three phase motor from a train and three sets of 450v lipos to make it easier to control. If you hammer 15 foot lengths of rebar flattish they should give more than enough lift so you save on blade costs

Somewhere in the last few posts(!) there was a question about the tail blades; it has standard Align ones.

I've ha a few suggestions on FBL controllers; do I need more than 6 channels?

I think that only applies to how bail-outs are set. I only have beastx where it's not relevent but if memeory serves bailouts can be either 'let go of sticks' or a set switch. I'm sure there'd be some sort of workaround but that can get involved...such as re-assigning gyro sensitivity to a preset and using that channel or using the rate section of gyro sens to trigger an on-board gizmo to fire another channel. Unless soemone with the fbl units chimes in it's a slow plod through their manuals

If your on a tight budget then get a set of ds610's off of here and a suitable tail servo.

If you can afford new then a great option is futaba bls451 with a bls256hv and your set for a 2s lipo or an a123 if you prefer to play it safe.

For motor I would get the align 700mx, again you can get a used one here. In fact I can sell you one! Plug plug. If you want more power then the 750mx is way to go.

The esc you do hear good things about the yep so if funds tight then go for that.

as for auto bail out then do your homework here, they are not as good as they want you to believe.

Batts I also say turnigy 30c 5000mah, do NOT get nano techs though.

                              Cheers
