While Im going through my rusty helsi and sorting them there's obviosuly a lot of bearings to change too. So I've been punting around lookign at options and prices: all the usual places plus many more and ebay.
There are some oddities about. Modelfixings lists back bearings for a 90 at around £8.80 each under their engine bearing section but only about £2.50 for a same size bearing under their general bearings page.
No comnets as to what type of bearings.
I like s/s for my engines anyway and the best price ended up at rcbearings.com (US) as long as i don;t get stung for customes.
Another oddity is that we use shielded bearings for our mainshafts but they dont keep mud and water out.. skate bearinsg and the like come as sealed..indeed the blitz avro has sealed bearinhs in most places. theoretically they might have more 'drag' on them but certainly types are rated for high speed (which desn;t fit with drag) and some are rated as high as abec9 (which is more to do with ball sphericity than speed). So is there a reason why we dont use s/s or sealed (or combo) bearings in all our weather exposed positions?
Align bearings are hardly the worlds best..but do the job. Once one starts punting around for cheap bearings then prices are really wildly variable - specially if buying bulk from china. I've been carefuly sorting out higher quality ones for the fast sites and cheap one's for the 'levers'.
Prices from different places are way variable too - for the same bearing. Start looking at s/s skf's from some places and 700 mainshaft sizes can be as much as £17 each.
For the helis that HK support it's worth loking at their ceramic sets.. good price
