  • motor stops

    Hi all.
This has only happened about three times so far.
The motor just stops while I am mid air. luckily Iam only a couple of feet up.But as soon as it hits the ground it starts up again and goes straight back up.
The model is a trex 450plus dcf. it is the ready to fly version.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    thanks

    Re: moto rstops

Maybe worth looking at your battery connector it sounds like you are losing a connection somewhere . Do you know if the servos are still operating when this happens mate .

happens quite quickly. it just drops then goes straight back into the air as if nothing happened. The battery connectors are bent at an odd angle I will check them out.
      cheers

As Rob says - probably a loose connection somewhere. If you retain servo control during the power loss, could be a motor connection or throttle connection from the 3GX. Could also be a "brown out" I guess with the failsafe cutting the motor. Checked your TX battery recently ?

did it again yesterday. flew for about 4 mins then it just dropped.
The tx says 4.7v . it is the align tx that came with the kit. the connections look fine.
It is only a few weeks old, should I send it back?

I had a similar thing happen on my 450 mate in that it would just drop out the sky . It was the speed controler on its way out , the only difference though it didnt restart its self straight away like yours . If you can send it back for checking i would . If it happens at hight its going to cost you . That TX voltage seems to low as well , when did you last charge it ? . Good luck .

Thanks Rob. I will give the guy a ring where I bought it from.
I was going to get a blade 450 but read of things like the speed controller going and servos going on them. So I opted to spend extra and get the align.
              Very SAD face.

I will trywhen the wind drops.

I would also check over the esc programming as it could be low voltage protection kicking in. Align esc are very simple to program there are vids on YouTube to help but you must program it with a linear throttle 0-25-50-75-100
Otherwise it will not recognize low mid and high stick positions for prog mode

Bearing in mind though that this is the DFC-plus .... ie the Align RTF (pre-built and test-flown) combo, so the ESC programming should all be done in the factory. There *should* be no need to fiddle with ESC settings on it.

Rob - 4.7v for the TX isn't too bad for nimh batteries. I think my DX8 flags a warning at 4.3v. It maxxes out at 5.2v so I don't think it's a TX issue.

Given that this wasn't a kit-build, rather it was a ready-to-fly combo (inc. TX) for beginners, I would contact your supplier. You've said you've phoned "them" - who did you buy it from may I ask? Flying in idle-up isn't a solution I'm afraid - this behaviour simply should not happen - idle up or not!

If this was a Blade, I would say send it back to Horizon Hobby (UK), but with Align, the main UK distributor is Robbe. I suspect though that if you contact them, they'll point you back to your reseller. Was it Align-Trex.co.uk by any chance ?

Hi. I bought the model online from Skyline models. He said try the idle up, but I cant find anywhere in the manual on how to activate it. I have but in new batteries in tx aswell.

TX isn't your problem. Neither is "idle up". For reference, idle up is a flight mode on your TX - sometimes labelled as "flight mode". We generally call it idle up as it makes your throttle curve flat at some high value. ie. the left throttle stick then only controls pitch with the rotors spinning full-speed regardless. It's how you fly a heli inverted!

I've never really dealt with Skyline, but really saying "try idle up" is just a fob-off in my opinion. Nobody who knew anything about helis would seriously suggest that as a potential solution.

Really, the heli is faulty. full stop. Being a ready-to-fly combo, it's up to the store who supplied it to either fix or replace it. I mentioned Align-trex.co.uk because (as many will tell you on here), Raj - the owner - is bloody good when it comes to customer service, and I would have said with absolute confidence that he'd see you right on this.

Not saying that Skyline won't - but I don't know. However, my view on this is that they need to sort this - either by fixing it, or replacing it. The problem you might have is that they may try fobbing you off by saying it's got to go back to Robbe/UK. That always takes time - during which, you're without a heli.

It's a tough one, but I would go back to Skyline and take the line that you want it fixed or replaced and see where that takes you ... Unless you can find somebody nearby who knows what they're doing and can take a proper look at for you.

I have on more than one occasion had to reprogram an esc. Last month my kontronik 100 lv lost its settings so best not assume anything mate, yes it should be fine but that's not always the case ;-)

PS - If you don't know what "idle up" is .... do not try it now! Your first foray in "idle up" flying should be when you're reasonably confident in your flying, and you're about 10-15 feet off the deck. Trying it now to sort this will only end in disaster!
