I've used deans for years on rc cars, and since i started flying on my 450, no problems at all

I very nearly put them on my 550 until I was advised against it :0 The 5500 gens aces come with deans on, The overwhelming response was EC5's

the issue with deans mark is all the crap copies. PLUS I cannot solder a deans without melting it no matter how hard I try! for me the XT are superb

I am thinking of changing out not because I have had problems but deans are such a pain to unplug. It is t too bad in the summer but in the winter with cold fingers it is almost impossible to unplug them without pulling the battery leads.

Tip for soldering them though, plug them together and then solder it . The extra mass from the other contact dissipates some heat and the fact they are connected means that if the housings do melt the pins stay in alignment.

I think I will go to powerpoles I anything 450 and up.

But I need to save up for the crimper.

I would never use deans on anything above a 500. Guy at my field had the flat spring from one of the terminals bend over and touch the other whilst plugging in a 12s machine. Nice noise but not a pretty sight.

I use XT60s on the 450 and EC5s on anything else. No way I would trust deans on a 700. Espescially after more use!

Apart from the issue with them being a PITA to solder, they are a PITA to connect/disconnect too.

If something is easier to solder, you are probably going to get a better quality joint.

If something is easy to connect and disconnect, you are probably going to get less wear and tear.

I used to use Deans on my electric planks, and on my 450, but swapped to EC3 / EC5 about a year ago.
