  • I still prefer nitro... BUT!

Gotta admit, I still prefer nitro... when it works. However, I have rotten luck and my tuning isn't great so when I take a nitro to the field, I'm spending more time fiddling than flying. Since getting my Fusion 50 dialed in on the Vbar and just going and flying, my flying is coming on a lot. I'm still only doing sports flying but having so much confidence in a model is giving me confidence to try new stuff.

Plus, hearing nothing but blade farting is awesome

Wish I could afford that bloody Rush 750!!

Ah, dirty, smelly, oily and noisy nitro........don't you just love it

I do agree with you Harry, they can be a bit temperamental, but when they are in the air, it's....just different.

For me, I rather fiddle with my engine, than those big lipos the night before I go flying.

Yeh I'd much rather faf about with needle settings in the cold when I should be flying than press a button on a charger in the warmth of the house *rolls eyes*

            Nitro Nitro NITROOOOO!!!!!

            VROOOM!

            ...sorry got carried away..

There is something about a big nitro in the air that's different from a big electric (and no I don't mean the smoke -_-)

and being able to take a big bottle of fuel rather then loads of batteries is nice

            Cheers

Well I haven't got experience of big leccys but for me it's nitro all the way. I prefer the way the fly and hang better in the air which I don't get with electric

Edit : Added that I find they hang in the air better, yes they hang better for me, thats me then

Harry, make it your mission to learn the ways of the nitro engine then you wont have to twiddle with needle anywhere near as much and you can just fly!

They got more hang time then anything I've seen.

I have always had quite good luck with nitro engines until I had a YS burn up on me and then I got a bit paranoid about it. I think tuning is trickier in cold weather because it's easy to lean out too much as the backplate is not a good indicator when it's cold out.

What I started doing is tuning from the bottom to the top and then back to the mid needle. So I set the idle mix first using the pinch test and then see how it runs starting with the high needle at the factory recommended setting (usually having to lean it a bit but not massively this time of year) do a few climbouts and some pitchy stuff and get it where I think the high needle is just slightly rich and then lastly looking at the mid needle by hovering a bit and see if it feels rich, see if the transition to the high needle is smooth etc. Once I have it all set I don't touch the needles until the weather warms up. There is a more thorough explanation of the tuning process on RR.

Regarding electric, I love them as well It's just a different experience. I really have started enjoying electric when I converted my nitro Hirobo SDX to 12s electric. I'm hoping I'm going to love the Rave ENV but have had a slow start with it and a few minor setbacks so hopefully it's ready to rock now.

I love my big electrics but if my flying site was nitro friendly I would try another as a supplement rather than a replacement. I don't miss the tinkering but I do miss the presence of a big nitro.

You don't know how much Harry secretly likes to fiddle! To be honest I've seen him fill the tank up on MANY occasions and not even get to the fiddling stage let alone flying stage!

That Fusion really does suit you Harry and stop being so modest with you're only doing sports flying, you're progress is great mate!!

Confirmed Nitro fan myself, got plenty of both Nitro and Electric but fly my Nitros most. Our club allows nitros up to 17:00 at weekends then we have to use electrics.
