    Dogs at local flying site

You couldn't have done much more than that fella, you could have given the dog a kick as it ran past, might have put it off.

The owner could do with a kick as well, what did he expect you to do?

Totally not your fault mate. You couldn't have done any more to avoid the little rat.

Nice multi tasking flying too :-)

Absolutely nothing you could have done ... you were preparing to ditch it at your own expense rather than hurt the dog ... i don't think in the same situation i'd have had the calmness to keep it flying safely (more my own ability / keeping concentrated on it)

Unfortunatly owners do not realise sometimes the dangers that their dogs could be in, but it does show one thing, flying in public areas is iffy, even if a dog is right over the other side of the field it can see the heli and run all the way over, most of the time the owners are not quick enough to get there, or just think its funny.
Even though in this situation it was not your fault, you can see how if the dog had been hurt you could easily get all the dog owners ganging up on you.
Best bet is to find a club, where you are not going to get these issues. Also it is worth checking if there are any bylaws regarding flying models, some public areas do have these restrictions

As a yappy Jack Russell owner myself ( mine would have been on lead) can't see anything more you could have done. ( other than kicked the owner!) I would have been looking at a pile of bits now if I were in the same position. The dog will get over it ask mine ( he runs a mile now if I even get the Nano out the box)

You choose to fly in a public area. You take the risk. We are a minority sport. Ownership of dogs isnt. As a dog owner I wouldnt expect someone to be flying around something that is of natural interest to the dog. We cant expect the dog to change its natural habits. However annoying it may seem, we are the mammal with the higher cognitive capabilities. Use it

Pretty sure the heli would be ripping her dog apart. I would not like to imagine what would happen if a small dog like this got struck in the head with a head speed of 3000RPM.

Here is the video, I will make it private again if it gets bad press. Ffhhfg - YouTube

I shortened it before the discussion with the owner. The man seen inst the owner of either dog, just someone who was kind enough to try and help.

As a dog owner I dont necessarily agree. Uncontrollable dogs like that rat yes. Well behaved and obedient dogs, at the owners discretion. Im quite lucky as my two will do as I tell them and not run off. But ive also experienced a dog with a mind of its own. Everything needs to be taken on its own merit. And the appropriate course of action used.

Bottom line here is Mark did everything he could to avoid hurting that dog and paid a financial penaly for its owners incompetence. There was nothing wrong with his flying at all, and he kept his cool a lot better than a lot of us would.

Can't say I quite agree with that completely. As a dog owner myself I think it's important to be able to let her have a run. They need that exercise that walking along tethered to a human is not going to suffice. Sure if there are signs telling me to keep her on a lead then fine but dogs have been around alot longer than our Helis and what happened in the vid was just natural hunting instinct.

If you take a dog in a 'public area', keep it under control. If that means keeping it on a lead, so be it. You are responsible for its actions.

I think as a dog owner you know your own dog and if you're confident you can keep it under control then that's fine be it with or without a lead. Obviously the owner of the dog in question couldn't so it should have been on a lead.
